Re: Voyagers

Came in for a first smoke, not being used to arriving at Centraal Station, after picking up some Amnesia hash from Central. Asked the Czech woman, whose name I should remember but don't, what was good, and she recommended the Powerbags, which were indeed more like the ones from a while back, rich in...

Re: Bagheera

I didn't try the 24K hash from here, but I did from Tweede Kamer. The woman in the shop said it was darker and stickier than it had been, and the Banana hash was better. She seemed surprised when I still wanted it, because I generally like the effect of darker and stickier hashes. 'But it isn't hash...

Boerejongens Sloterdijk

ACD Page: Boerejongens Sloterdijk I had read some typical overhype about a new flagship shop here, but didn't know whether it had opened. But as I had some time to kill at Sloterdijk Station, and it's the most soulless station I know in Amsterdam – by contrast Duivendrecht is bubbling with charm – I...

Re: Anyone have any good cheap room ideas

They only do the eco-cabins in winter, which are quite warm via some ingenious method of grass roof and underfloor heating. Trust me, I'm a wuss, although there was a hardy Irishman actually camping in a tent in November when I was there. You do have to walk to a shower block, so probably best to we...

Re: coffeeshops with air conditioning

Thought I'd revive this thread, because nobody has done it properly, and someone should. Yesterday I was wondering about this very question myself, because it was one of those strange days when it's not so much temperature (though it was fairly high) but the way small locations become oppressive, pa...

Re: The Plug (formerly Utopia)

Have i missed something, or was this place rated so highly on their staff alone? It's not that. But Utopia was unique. Now, at best, it's Just Another Shop. OK, a shop with a very extensive menu, and if they do manage to supply all that they promise, in a condition that merits the mostly premium pr...

Re: The Plug (formerly Utopia)

I was planning to look in at least on this trip, and perhaps try something. But I didn't see any staff I knew, so didn't bother going in. Later I ran into Ingi elsewhere, and she's no longer working there. I should have asked about James and Ahmed, but didn't. So as far as I'm concerned there's no r...

If you think you know public transport, you don't

And they won't tell you about it. There is supposed to be a summary here: https://en.gvb.nl/reizen/nieuwe-tijden/overzicht-van-alle-wijzigingen. But it's not very well laid out: for example, if you were wondering about the 12, which used to run between Amstel Station and Sloterdijk, it tells you The...

Re: Anyone have any good cheap room ideas

Camping Zeeburg have ecocabins and wagonettes, and isn't bad. No TV, at least a couple of years ago, but very good wifi.

SSH still very nice. Annoying feeling that if I had more time, it would be interesting to explore other possiblilities. But, you know, I hadn't.

Re: Anyone have any good cheap room ideas

Prices have skyrocketed over the last couple of years. I'd recommend using the Trivago site for price comparison.

Re: Goa

I've been going to Amsterdam for many, many years, and as Goa is one of the older shops and prominently situated, I have passed it many, many, times. I've never bought from there; I haven't even gone in to check the menu for decades. And that menu provides a very clear explanation of why I avoid the...

also venture to ( I won’t even try to spell the name but the Blue and White coffee shop is there) it’s right near the sea Scheveningen? It's phonetic, at least if you're not German. RoMoney -- do you think there's enough in Eindhoven alone to merit a day trip, or is it best to include Tilburg as we...

I've talked about Eindhoven since 2011, and yet never gone. Maybe it's time. Always good to see reports about other parts of NL.

Re: xmas in dam

It's cold in a fair bit of the Northern Hemisphere at that time as well. But there are no coffeeshops to pop into when you're out and about. Result: Amsterdam wins.
