Re: What NOT to do in Amsterdam

I don't think I ever recovered from ordering a glass of karnemelk in a coffee shop far from the centre, many, many years ago. I have a fondness for milk from time to time – less so now, perhaps, but I was in my 20s then – and it sounded so festive and colourful, what with its echoes of carnival. I t...

Re: Quest for Amsterdam's Diamonds Pt5 August12 Smoke Report

I'm gutted. For me just a few weeks ago the NY Diesel from de Graal was the highlight of all the green I tried – the most distinctive of any strain ever for me with respect to taste, and the effect wasn't bad either. I've banged on about it a couple of times already, and someone else put it in their...

It's really open that early? I'll be getting in early myself next week, and don't much fancy having a pipe-opener at Central since it's changed hands, with no recent reviews.

Re: How long until...

I felt the same way before visiting Haarlem the first time last year, but it's really not very difficult to negotiate, even without a map. However, I got off at the station and started walking towards the Grote Markt; basically, there was no way I could have got lost, but I get neurotic, so I stoppe...

Re: Which strains and coffeeshops do you currently recommend

How did I miss that one? I'd made a note of BW, which I'd never tried, and was staying in de Pijp, but the NY Diesel from de Graal made it go out of my head. I don't like getting too much green, because of the bulk, but I'd have gone for a gram if I'd remembered. Anyway, as I keep saying, NY Diesel ...

Re: If we kept only the taste!

I wonder whether that's the stuff I'm waiting right now for, although my dealer's just rung to let me know he's overslept. It certainly smells fruity, but I think he'd react with puzzlement if I asked him about the strain. To be honest, taste was something I never was much bothered about: the effect...

Great stuff, keep it coming. I like the unconventional approach. I took the Dutch Flyer myself only a few days later, and was so less adventurous.

Re: Last trip before the Wietpass, 23rd - 27th August

I took my 'last' trip to Amsterdam on 20 November last year. Hadn't been since 2008, but I was suffering from a local drought, they were saying the wietpas would be in place by the end of the year and I had this crazy idea that I could do some shopping on a day trip by coach without taking time off ...

They're willing to give a special rate for what is technically a no-no? I know some shops will sell you more than 5g, but...

Damn, I must have walked by this one when I was out that way. I'd love to try that hash -- strong, oily and black are three wonderful adjectives. Well, I'm sure I'll be back.

Re: Siberie

Good, I'm not quite senile yet. I love this place. Last time I was there -- Christ, it was only last Thursday, but it seems a lifetime away -- I went in after a museum visit and smoked some of their Nepal. Was struck by how good the coffee was; yes, I know I'd never choose bad smoke/good coffee over...

Re: Siberie

That seems to ring a bell. I was there in 2008, just after the smoking ban had started, but not again till 2011. Unless my notorious lack of observational skills is playing up again, there's now just the initial large area where you can mix tobacco in your joint, but as I said, I was in the back wit...

Re: Siberie

What do you mean? The first bit you enter is the smoking room, and I don't know whether it qualifies as silly, but it's hardly little by coffeeshop standards. The other section, which is smaller, is where the bar and computer and vaporisers are. It's a bit misleading to call it the non-smoking secti...

Re: Utopia

Without this board I wouldn't have been aware of Utopia. I'd have seen it as just another coffeeshop iin the centre, and would probably not have risked the possibility of getting mediocre wares from there when there were shops within walking distance I knew and trusted. But I went in on my first eve...
