I have no problem with showing my ID im just paranoid about carrying a passport around and getting it stolen or lost. What happens if u dont have a passport and just a US drivers license and get stopped? Do i go to jail? Will I be able to go to my hotel and show them my passport?

Do I need to bring my passport with me everywhere to get into coffeeshops? Im 26 but look VERY young. I have a US drivers licence is that acceptable in coffeeshops? I really dont wanna risk losing my passport. Thanks in advance
