We've just got flights from Birmingham to Amsterdam return for less than £50 each, out at lunchtime New Year's Eve, back a few days later in the evening.

A friend went yesterday for £70 return, coming back Sunday night.

These were both BMI Baby, British Midland's budget arm.

I used to live very near Heathrow, about 20 mins drive, and had a far more .... casual attitude to money I suppose is one way to put it, so sloping off to Amsterdam for the weekend was great, but I never travelled on budget airlines, always had to go via BA or KLM, didn't want to miss a few hours be...

Hey Rez I think having been before a few times, it makes it easier from several points of view - eg going into coffeeshops and actually asking for those grams of whatever, finding your way about - but coming on here and getting personal views and experiences makes it all that much better! How long d...

I'm always one to try places myself anyway, but the reviews do help because then you know something happens like you get shouted at as per reviews for Dutch Flowers for example, at least we know it isn't just us! We don't get into Schiphol until about 3pm, so by the time we get to the hotel it is li...

Read that Nieuwmarkt was the best place to go (if you're not into the party scene on Dam Square, which I'm not - done Trafalgar Square plenty of times as a young girlie!). Not entirely sure I know where that is though - and recommendation of a good coffeeshop if we get there at a reasonable time?

we get in on 31st (bummer, but better than getting in on the 1st!), at about 3pm. Staying at Crowne Plaza and was thinking of going to Rookies because they do beer as well and one of our friends doesn't partake of the weed.

Sounds like a plan, we'll have to keep in touch!!

I've been to Arizona!

I can definitely relate to that - I never went away until I was about 20, then for the last 15 years I have travelled alot - Sweden, Amsterdam, France, Spain, Portugal, and alot of the US - worked near DC for a few months back in 98. Haven't left the country for about 4 years I think and haven't had...

I always find I like a glass of wine (or bottle) with a good fat one, but it depends on the weather in a way. When we spent a week in Amsterdam during the middle of the summer, we drank quite a bit of beer in between coffee shop visits, unless it was a coffee shop that sold beer in which case we'd m...

Don't - my hubby keeps asking why we can't go for a year, he'd give it all up (not that we've got much to give up anymore!) to live there for a year and run a coffee shop, would have to be able to grow our own though, that would be nice. Wonder what he'd call it??!! At least it's only an hour long f...

not sure that most of my friends would call me a lady!!! But I like to think I could be if I had to be. In fact, did wear a dress a couple of weeks ago for my 30-11th birthday, that surprised people! Looking forward to exchanging a few messages with people and perhaps sharing a toke or two in a good...

New Member - off to the Dam for New Year!

Hi there, just a quick intro as I'm sure you all have better things to read (I seem to not be able to get off here now I've found it). Married woman just the wrong side of 40 going to the Dam for the 4th time with hubby and a couple of friends, just decided on the spur of the moment to go for New Ye...
