Better than some reviews here at least, as a few have given the Atlas a rather rough treatment. Would probably say that the Atlas is a big 7 or a small 8 if the Royal is a 10, it is not bad at all but lacking the creamy richness, as well a the very clean and fresh feel of the Roayal. Also not that powerful for the money, but still a reasonable smoke.
Yes, we also thought that the Royal was nicer (for all I remember we liked their cheaper Primera at 10€ better though). But I found the Atlas to be nice for a walk if you don't want to get hammered. Considering the long walk out west, the Atlas has a plus point here, too. :D

Wednesday August 3rd – last day at the piggy

We woke again quite early in the morning Wednesday, Mr. CC as usual some time before the missus. After the now traditional hour and a half or so of waking and baking the better half joined and a quick brekkie and some smoking ensued. We went through some GP Cheesecake (again a bitch to work with, but when lazily rollin’ joints in the morning with some good company it was ok), Massawa Royal, a block hash spliff of some sorts and a couple of weeds. Think we finished of the AllegraCookies and some buy from Voyagers.

The plan was to go out west again, visit Boerjoengens and Massawa and to try to find El Marssa for some more Moroccan gold, but we were in no rush so thought we’d have a little shop sesh before heading west.

So it was another early visit to easy times, we got there around noon after having gone on a little trip somewhere for maybe some supplies, can’t remember but pretty sure a visit to Utopia was in there somewhere, if not it must have been the day before at some time because we definitely went there before Thursday and there is a small hour and a half time gap in our memories here. We also seem to remember meeting up with gapie and Mike before thursday, it is a little blurry.

At ET we looked through a few of the offerings and settled on the Moonshine Haze and some more of the 24K hash. The Moonshine Haze smelled fantastic in the tub, super lemony and potent, but it didn’t translate as well into the flavor smoked. We threw some in the Volcano which was somewhat better, yet not entirely what we hoped for smelling it in the tub. Effects were nice, uplifting and clear high. We vaped a little more and had the organic coconut, almond and cookie crumble spacecake which was super tasty and well prepared, but not very powerful considering the price of 10 €. Edibles don’t really bite that much on us though, especially Mr. CC has to go quite high in dose, and we had already smoked a lot by this time, so was hard to distinguish the effects of the edible coming on slower, YMMV.

After a good sesh with a few joints and some vaping we headed out west and after a nice ride in fair weather we easily found Boer west and hopped inside. The place looks rather nice, but it is really odd and confusing that they have what looks like a smokers cabin but don’t allow smoking on site.

There were no other customers than us and we had a nice little chat with the bts and an older gentleman who was obviously also part of the operation, but hung out in plain clothes (and not the Boer “uniform”) at the front of the counter. They told us that there would be two new block hashes the next day, Thursday, at Boer center, the Kosher Tangie and something else and that we should try and hit those up (which we did :) ). We bought a g of the Tbliza and some other block, think it was the AK OG Kush block but might be wrong.

We headed up to Massawa, got two more gs of the Royal and sat down for a little smokeout with a couple of lattes and more of Massawas funky fruit drinks. We tried the Tbliza (12 €) which the guys at Boer had said was their most “classic tasting” Moroccan, which was true, at least out of the blocks we sampled. It was a blondish looking hash that was pressed just enough for darker strikes of deep brown to come out here and there with a harder texture than most, it not all, of the blocks from Boer we had.

It had a classic Moroccan smell to it when it was broken up and the taste in the joint was very fresh and floral, with deep earthy notes and a good spicey foundation. Good smoke, but maybe not the best priced from Boer, left a nice mellow body stone but it overall wasn’t that impressive compared to either the super tasty and / or more powerful blocks at lower price from this chain. We had some weed we don’t recall and some more of the Royal before heading out on foot to find El Marssa.

As the live report has already ratted us out and DLN has made his fun of us, we must admit that we didn’t succeed in finding it and gave up after assing around for 15-20 minutes in square semi-circles looking at mostly residential buildings.

So we got back to our bikes and headed over to foodhallen for some munchies, the small brekkie at piggy no longer sufficing and our bodies screaming for something to fight the cannabinoid-onslaught we are putting them through.

The Foodhallen are a great place to try out a good number of different dutch and international treats, as long as you are not on a tight budget as it is a little pricey.

A nice little poster shows the hallen “back in the day” and when the refurbishment started in 2013, to the right a picture of how it looks anno 2016.

We dived into two racks of bitterballen from the Ballenbar and a nice local Witbier from a bar close by. The bitterballen are awesome and it is nice getting a selection to try out the different yummy fillings. Mrs. CC thought the bouillabaisse and the thom-kha-kai were the best, Mr. CC had a harder time deciding between these delicious treast, but was leaning towards the truffle. The Witbier went excellent with the ballen btw.

Image
Bitteballen and beer!

After the ballen bar we had a broodjes falafel from the falafel place which wasn’t that impressive. It was good falafel and all, but just not something that would wow a real falafel lover and the price was a bit steep compared to the many other more exclusive offerings at similar prices.

Image
Broodjes falafel, ok but not that impressive.

Afterwards we hooked up with DLN who was fresh in from doing some everyday stuff. We bought a chicken-doughnut mini-sandwich just because it sounded so freaky we had to get one, seeing both the chicken and doughnuts being cooked to order wasn’t bad either!

Image
Doughnuts being cooked to order, irresistible.

The sandwich had deep-fried chicken, spring onions, fresh chilli, maybe some other vegie, a little sauce and mini-doughnut “bun”. Weird as it sounds it was actually delicious and we would certainly like to try one of those puppies again. Guessing it would have to be as freshly made as this to be that delicious as it probably doesn’t keep well.

Image
Weird and wonderful mini-doughnut and chicken sandwich.

We chatted briefly with DLN who had some fresh doughnuts before he was off again to run a few errands before we would hook up at the Cannabis College for some rosin-tech magic.

We went over to Kashmir Lounge for an after-munchies smoke and some coffee. Here we finished off the Tbliza and had some AM Cream from Utopia, before rolling up a spliff of Super Polm from the Spirit for the road and went on a nice little biking trip around the south-western parts before heading up towards the lower RLD area in search of the College. For some reason we always think the College is on the canal closer to the Dam and again spend a few mintues walking up and down this before asking a very friendly and attractive woman working in one of the sex shops for directions. She laughs a bit a sort of points through the back wall of the shop and says “it’s right there, one block over!”.

At the College we grab a seat at the back table / couch arrangement, but not before making a donation and getting our gazillionth “good for a lifetime” tickets.

After we have chatted to a few people there and rolled up and smoked a couple of joints DLN joins us, out comes the gear and the rosin-tech show is underway!

Image
Preparing for the squeeze…

DLN first pressed out some Massawa Royal and next some flower (Critical Kush IWRC). Out comes the Grace Glass rig with the domeless titanium nail and the dab train rolls away from the station for a short sprint as the College is winding down and closing soon.

Image
Yoda at work, teaching younglings new ways of the force! Squeeze you must, hard it is when not that hefty you are…

We gotta give some props here to DLN for initiating us into the sweet world of hash and flower rosin dabs. We have had dabs of various BHO products before and needless to say we liked those a lot, but there is something special to a hash rosin dab when you have smoked hash for most of your life and the rosin is squeezed from such nice hash as the Massawa Royal or other good hashes. The flavor translates through amazingly and you are left with a mouthful of powerful and delicious aromas and flavors that really does the fine product justice.

Mr. CC was immediately hooked on the rosin and maybe went a little overboard with the second hash rosin dab which was quite sizeable and gave him a few coughs. The flower rosin dab DLN shortly after handed him sent him into a wicked coughing fit that lasted all the way out of the college and half way to Batavia.

Image
Tzell me what youw zee here my child? Is it a butterfly, is it a flower, is it a long lowst memowy fwom youwr childhood? A little Rosin- Rorschach for you…

Nicely buzzed from the dabs and a full day of smoking we arrive at Batavia to really get into it. We get a few beers, grab the window table and start sashing away. We also inspect the stuffed baggie of prima green that has magically come in to our possession recently. It contains (IWRC) 13,6 g’s counting 5 g’s of SSH, and 8,6 of LA Fire and Critical Kush (can’t remember the exact distribution of these two, there were also to variant of one of these latter two).

The new purchases look amazing and we get into a good long sesh dabbing a bit and smoking a fair number of hash and weed joints, along with a few pints each of some nice brews supplemented with a few candy bars and some water to combat the whitey. Batavia is an awesome place, just had to say that again, best hangout in the city, and thus consequently the world! :D

After a while we break up and head down to Hill Street Booze where we get more beer and tables downstairs for some more smoking and drinking. HSB is a nice place for a warm up before heading out into the night, the view is amazing and is is very smokers friendly, but the very pushy service does get a little irritating. We aren’t slow drinkers or anything, and you tend to get rather thirsty when blazing away more or less constantly so we were keep a rather high pace, but the girl clearing the tables and taking orders downstairs was over us as soon as we were half way through the drink we were currently enjoying asking what we wanted next. Not a big deal, but they could turn it down a bit.

Image
Massawa Royal Rosin @ HSB.

We have a great time shooting the shit and getting blazed for w while. Our memories of the details of the smoke, drink and activities at this point are quite sketchy, but at some point we agreed to head out and look for some grub.

The choice fell on Burger Bar in de Pijp (more or less next to Katsu) and we grabbed the bikes and headed south with DLN in the lead going at local’s speed. It was a fun ride burning through the dimly lit streets blasted on much smoke, some good dabs and some fine beer. Amsterdam really is a beautiful city, whether you are strolling along the canal side or blazing through the streets on a mission to find some burgers and we enjoyed flying through the night dreaming of the tasty meat-in-bun that awaited.

BB was out of Kobe so we got a black angus with onion rings each. The burgers were really good, but maybe not as great as we remember them from seven years ago. They are probably just as good as back then, but we have gotten older and a lot wiser on burgers since. Copenhagen has a wealth of great burger places and the elite of these make the best burgers we have ever had, hands down. There are probably a lot of better places out there, especially in the motherland of burgers, we have just not been to any of these yet.

The onion rings on the other hand were straight up fantastic place and price taken into consideration. Perfectly fried, with a spot on ration of batter to onion and good seasoning on the batter that went really well with the sweetness of the onion they were are treat. They are the best onion rings we have had outside of restaurants mentioned in the guide, and it doesn’t really make sense comparing a meal at a late night burger place to a fine dining restaurant. Maybe next time we’ll try Burgermeester or the Butcher for burgers and go to BB just for a shitload of onion rings.

After the burgers DLN was in a bit of a party mood and as his friends were right around the corner at a bar he invited us to join them. The time was approaching midnight and we had to get up in the morning to check out from the piggy and go to the apartment in Prinsensstraat. We were also feeling the effects of the last three days, so we in stead said our goodbyes for the night and headed over to De Graal for a night cab.

IWRC we got to De Graal just before midnight, grabbed some lemon skun ice, a few beverages and headed upstairs for a few joints.

Upstairs was quite packed but we seats at the round table with three dutch dudes and a younger couple. The couple only stuck around for ten or fifteen minutes, but after they left we chatted a little with two of the remaining dutch guys who had found a spot right in the corner where they could reach two of those “pokestops” or whatever they are called. They would hang out there, smoke and collect whatever it is they collect at those sights for hours on end, chatting a bit amongst themselves from time to time and generally just have a good time. If you want to play that game, these guys have it figured out…

After De Graal we went back to the piggy for some late night smoking with the crew and whoever was still standing (or rather leaning / slouched over / already halfway out) at the bar and in the smokers room.

The missus gave in after a couple of hours but Mr. CC hung around till about three, had a stroll in Vondel with a fatty, walked by Leidseplein were some music was playing from a half open bar and finished the night with a big fat hash and ice joint sometime after four.

Thus ended three great and happy days at the piggy and also pretty much the rest of our intellible notes from the trip, save a few pages of scriblings about some of the weed and smoke, a good number of pictures and bits of oddeties, tickets and other memorabilia we have only our riddle memories to go from from here on out.

We had a massive blast the first three days, but much more fun, wild psychedelic adventures and just downright having a killer of a time was still to come. Stay tuned for more that might be a little less in the TLDR category due to the lack of source material besides of dazed brains.

Nice read. Re bitterballen, have the dutch yet got up to speed on the veggie front with those things? I never even bother looking as i always assume they're all meat-only?

Thanks for the feedback guys, it was great trying to piece those three crazy first days together, the remaining days will be much less accurate and detailed as our memories fade and mix into a wonderful, pretty dream.

Seem to remember that both the truffle and goat's cheese ones were veggie, but it is a little vague.

Thursday August 4th

A head-slamming trip!

Up at half nine-ish, quick shower, coffee / smoke, toast with jam, coffee / smoke, check-out, bike with stuff to… ?? Possibly directly to new apartment.

Check-in to the new apartment was smooth and fast and the stand-in host was super friendly and very nice, warning us in a friendly tone “not to buy drugs ,on the street, at Pride”. She paused a bit after saying drugs, stressed the next part, “on the streets”, paused a bit again and gave the end “at Pride” an extra nudge, which made us snicker slightly and gave us a good laugh later.

We grabbed a breakfast sandwich with ham, cheese and a fried egg from the little café thingy across from Letting on Prinsensstraat, which for the money was a great and quite filling start-of-the-day meal. As we sat at the table in the great new place, had breakfast and some lattes, along with a good many joints, while looking out on the charming and beautiful street, we agreed that life was pretty fucking sweat in Amsterdam.

Ibericus was high on our list of must visit food places as we are completely hooked on cured and dried meats, and Jamon Iberico (Pata Negra) is the absolute king of these only rivaled by the much harder to get tuscan Cinta Senese.

If you like Iberian ham, well then Ibericus on Haarlemmerstraat is your place: it is fantastic to see all those spectacular examples displayed for your viewing pleasure, smell the sweat funk of those perfectly cured pieces of heaven and, best of all, get into tasting them babies before making your selection. We hung a little at the counter, chatting with the guys serving and tasting a good selection of the most delicious hams you can imagine before settling on an selection of 5 different hams, at least one from each of the main regions (Extremadura, Salamanca and, erhm, Jabugo IWRC). Between the selection several from Joselito and 5 J’s, it doesn’t get better than that friends. The prices were actually really fair, off course it was quite a little bill we ran up buying so much of the best hams around, but it was a good deal less than we had feared stepping in there and knowing our hunger for choice hamon.

We then went down to Kaasland, also on Haarlemmerstraat, were we got some aged Gouda (18 months and six years IWRC) and some Parmesan. We went across the street to the wineshop right across from Pablow and got a nice bottle of Spanish and Italian red, and bottle of Hendrick’s Gin. Then of to drop off ham and cheese at apartment and then go to the cookiemaijn (Van Stapele koekmakerij), to get a case of those most awesome cookies in the whole world.

It was still quite early in the day, so we thought we would scoot on over to Utopia and hang a bit before we get the shrooms. At Utopia we grab a g of the AM Cream and a g of Grape Ape, meet Mike (one of Gapie’s friends as it turns out), sit for minute inside and then convince him to join us outside at the table / bench there. Mike grumbles a bit that it was too windy out to roll, but joined us anyway. Not long into our rolling a fatty with some previous purchase a whirlwind flies past us and in the door to Utopia, Mike comments “there goes Stan”, we look around, and woosh there Gapie is back again outside saying hi.

Mike is still struggling with either a grinder or some other stuff like that, nowhere nearer rolling a joint than he was inside, when we blaze up the fatty (mind you Mike was busy inside, Mrs. CC started outside) and pass it around. It quickly gets some stares from Mike who says that it is one of the best looking joints he has ever seen. We finish this and roll up another fatty which Mrs. CC puts a little more work into, while Gapie also rolls up a joint. When the missus is finished Mike is no longer in doubt, those fatties Mrs. CC rolls are the prettiest and most perfect joints he has seen rolled and he later gets deep into hatching a business scheme that involved a shop where you could buy top draw weed and then have it hand rolled, the top of the line would of course be rolled by Mrs. CC.

At this time Mike had managed to get as far as a few failed attempts at his craftsmanship and we were starting the rolling on number three, while Gapie’s joint is being passed around. We were halfway into the third joint when Mike gave up, moved inside for a few minutes and came back with a finished joint. Needless to say he was the victim of a good deal of friendly taunting from both Gapie and us.
After more smokey smokey smokey as Stan would put it, we go to MM gallery for shrooms, 4 bags of 2,3 g Mexicans pocketed along with a small glass pipe and we were off again.

More supplies at AH, then past The Spirit for the 5 g deal on the Super Polm and a g of their top hash, which we remember to be called King Hassan, but that might be wrong, plus a couple of lattes to go with the smoke. The top hash was the one we had asked for the first time there, but had been talked off by the BT who pointed us to the Super Polm as greater value. Really enjoying the Super Polm we were still curious about their top pick (as the Super Polm was so nice). While we agree with the bt that the Super Polm is better value, especially at the 5 g deal, the top one was a really fine smoke that was worth the 12 € they asked for it and almost rivaled the Massawa Royal in classic Moroccan goodness. It was darker than the Royal (as well as the Super Polm off course) and heavier on the earthy and piney notes IWRC, but super smooth and creamy. Went just perfectly with the good latte the friendly bt made for us, real espresso based lattes here also, no machine fuckery.

We go home to smoke, relax and get ready for some shrooming. Quite quickly DLN came over.

We sat around smoking, dabbing and vaping a bit, DLN was a champ and had previously brought not only his rosin tech gear and nail, but also a Volcano for some good times with the baggies.

After a while, DLN’s girlfriend got off from work and the promise of jamon a good wine was enough to lure her over to join us.

The jamon and cheese was excellent and we sat around chatting and getting a little more acquainted with our new friends as the herbs, wine, hash, cheese and jamon were taking a beating. As it was getting a little into the late afternoon and we wanted to begin our trip while the day wasn’t gone Mrs. CC started eating a dose of the shrooms as Mr. CC was finishing up some more of the jamon. She had about three quarters of a pack, maybe a little less than that and Mr. C munched down what was left of that pack and another full pack.

No more than maybe 15 minutes pass before we felt the first effects, the familiar tingling in the body, microscopic disturbances in your peripheral vision and a slight wave of euphoria, the effects are clearly noticeable for the both of us before 20 minutes has past.

We have been steadily talking DLN into shrooming up with us, pocking him randomly most of the time since he arrived, and seeing us getting into it tips him over the edge and he is off on the bike in hunt for some shrooms to join us.

While he was out we hung around with his GF and felt the shrooms blast off. They were some real potent little puppies: relatively heavy distortion of colors (with everything taking on a red-ish hue, mixed with yellow and deep purple in the edges), CEV’s and heightened senses were some of the almost immediate effects. They were also quite euphoria inducing and slightly energizing to the head, while giving a nice mellow strectchy feeling in the body.

Just as Mr. CC passed by the door telephone, it went off, and as it had a very insistent and LOUD wail of a buzzer it, again, scared the living shiz out of him. Luckily it didn’t kick the shrooms in a bad direction and DLN joined us shaking his head laughing a bit to himself.

It had taken longer than anticipated for him to get the shrooms because he had to go two places to look for them. He first went to the MMG at Single were we got ours, walked in and asked for shrooms in Dutch. This turned out to be a mistake as DLN laughingly told us afterwards. He overheard the two people working there talking to each other in Dutch, saying something like “doesn’t he know not to ask in Dutch” and such things, where upon they told him that they didn’t sell shrooms, only truffles. Well, back on your bike son, try again! ;)

The Smartshop on Warmoesstraat (next to HSB?) was luckily a different story as reportedly zero fucks were given here and they just had the shrooms laying out on the table. DLN was recommended some Ecuadorians, grabbed them and flew back direction Prinsensstraat on his bike.

It gets a little blurry, but IWRC DLN was sharing his funny story as Mr. CC decided to re-dose on the shrooms. At this time he was having slight to medium OEV’s and generally having a good time, but wasn’t completely where he wanted to be and thought that he might as well re-up before it was too late (it doesn’t make sense re-dosing on shrooms after two to three hours, the window closes pretty fast). Just after he finished eating some two thirds of a pack more the first dose, which seemed to have plateaued rather nicely for a good quarter of an hour before that, came on a lot stronger and Mr. CC commented to the group that “this might become very interesting” as he had just upped the dose quite a bit and the first one apparently wasn’t done climbing.

DLN’s shrooms came on quite quicy as well and within a short half an hour the three of us were on the express train to trippywhippy land. These puppies were seriously powerful and all three of us were soon tripping balls with mad ass visuals (CEV’s, OEV’s) and funky euphoric effects. The Mexicans we had were the most intense on the visuals we have ever had, but without being very ”trippy” in the introverted, weirdly contemplative way some shrooms tend to be. Very social, upliftingly trippy and mad heavy on the visuals.

It was a great night and an awesome, heavy trip that lasted surprisingly long, those shrooms just kept coming back with wave after wave of trippy visuals. A couple of hours in and after the most intense peak DLN got the idea that we should do a dab. Up till this point we had stuck to joints and vape bags as the trip was really intense for all of us and smoking joints and hitting the Volc vape was enough to send us bouncing around with kaleidoscopic visuals and big laughs.

Watching DLN torch the nail and do the dab was fascinating for Mr. CC, the intense flame and the bubbling rosin beautifully enhanced by the still kicking shrooms. Doing a dab of his own was spectacular at this stage, the (to shroomy ears) loud roar of the torch, the sight of the jet-like blue flame licking the nail, the bubbling of the rosin as it quickly evaporates was like a tornado of impressions all adding to the wonderful effects of the shrooms. The effects of the dab were so instantaneous that it literally hit and just kept climbing while the rosin was still bubbling off the nail, giving the shroom trip a big ass kick in the butt and bringing it right back to the peak level.
We were thoroughly blitzed by this point and sometime after midnight DLN’s GF, who hadn’t been tripping with us but just sticking to the smoke, said her good nights and went off for bed, being quite tired after a hard work week followed by a night of trippywhippy people.

We hung around, still very trippy for the next few hours, having a great time and having some of the weird and wonderful conversations trippy people are wont to have, looking out into the street and off course smoking and vaping a good deal.

At some time during the evening the Dutch guy living in the apartment across the street half a floor up from us (because of the wonderful way the houses of Mokum are built this will make sense to a lot of you) came home in the company of another guy and a girl. They were quite obviously blasted out of their skulls on something besides the drinks they were still having, DLN and the GF speculated that they might be tripping in the K-hole from the way they were acting. Whatever it was they were the perfect example of our little saying “there is always someone more fucked than you just around the corner in Amsterdam”.

At one point the girl was standing on a table or something like that a meter or so from the open window dancing as she fell over. She fell directly towards the open Amsterdam style window that was more than wide and big enough for her to go flying straight down three stories to land head first on the pavement. Had it not been for good fortune, her head / face and the lower edge of the window she would have been gone for sure, and we would have had a nightmarish conclusion to our trip having witnessed that first hand. Luckily, it wasn’t to end that way and CRACK her face /head slammed into the hard wood frame of the window, almost folding her head back to touch her butt and she came crashing down to the floor, still inside the apartment. The Dutch guy who apparently owned the place was sitting in the window at this point shirtless and with a blanket or sheet over him and as she slammed into the window he flew up, butt-naked doing an involuntary helicopter and jumping to her aid. You know what they say: shit happens when you party naked…

We sat up until some early hour the next morning (party still going strong opposite us) before DLN hopped on the bike home, MRs. CC crashed and Mr. CC sat around smoking a few more before finally crashing some time between six and seven in the morning.

At this point the party opposite had finally moved to the curtained off upstairs (to what appeared to be the bedroom), after having been quite freaky in the completely open and visible living room for a good many hours…

We had a blast of a trip, thanks to DLN for coming along, that was a great evening and night dude! :D

Friday August 5th

Sleep in… Which for Mr. CC meant up around ten thirty.

We had breccy from one of the shops on Prinsensstraat, can’t remember the name or what we got, but guess it was a few pastries from the Italian place. The first part of the day we spent hanging at coffeeshops, among these Utopia, where we thing we met Mike again, he was smoking some fresh-in tourist into a stupor and seemed to be enjoying himself.

Image
Utopia, AM Cream - great value smoke!

For a late lunch we had a nice beer and some funky deep fried chicken from the D. Williams beer and booze shop, before meeting up with DLN, for a vape, dab, smoke and chill at home sesh.

Image
Some funky deep fried chicken and a nice beer, very yummy!

We think we did some more shops and stuff, later we went to Cannibal Royal for a late night meal a little after 23. Food was as described in the live report good value, especially for a place that serves you till late at night. We then hit Dampkring for Kosher Kush and some hash for MR. CC, whereupon one of the bts did his “coffeeshops are closing, get your weed, get your weed” act and we finished our smoke and left. After the smoke at Dampkring DLN was out for the night, having had little sleep the last few nights was getting to him.
