Not truffles, real magic mushrooms

Post by ScottishStoner »

Hey all, I'm about to head to Amsterdam woth two mates for one of their's 21st. This will be my 6th trip to Amsterdam and I have tried truffels a few different times. They were decent enough but I'd like to try the real deal.

I see people saying you just have to ask the right people/shop and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to who I should speak to/what shops may be more likely to help me out.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

What dates will you be in Amsterdam?
I'll post you on the Whos In Town page.
You can see who else may be in town and any Toke & Talks that are planned.

Nobody is going to out a shop that is doing them a big favor.

Enjoy

Psilocybin is the same compound in both mushrooms and truffles.
A truffle is just an upside down mushroom.
Crack on!

Really why?

A quick search on Shroomery.org turned up this… http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showfla ... r/17845913

Magic truffles appear to contain only psilocybin, whereas magic mushrooms contain both psilocybin and psilocin (among a few other alkaloids). So there's at least a subtle difference between the two.

The study below also shows that 1 gram of fresh magic truffles contains roughly between 0.6 and 1.7mg of psilocybin, depending on the species. Truffles are most commonly sold fresh at 15g per package, which would yield a total psilocybin dose of 9 to 25.5mg (the latter being quite a stiff dose).

Magic truffles or Philosopher's stones: a legal way to sell psilocybin?

Abstract

"Magic mushrooms" is the most common name given to hallucinogenic fungi containing the psychoactive alkaloids psilocybin and psilocin. In recent years, fungis' sclerotia, commonly called "magic truffles" have become a form of supply of psychoactive Psilocybe alkaloids since Psilocybe sclerotia are not specifically included in the laws banning the sale, the purchase and the use of such substances and mushrooms containing them. A liquid chromatography -tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was developed for the rapid determination of psilocybin and psilocin in Psilocybe sclerotia. Following a simple step extraction with methanol, the alkaloids were separated on a reversed-phase column using a gradient of 0.1% formic acid - acetonitrile s a mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.2 mL/min.. Separated analytes were detected by electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry in the positive ion mode using multiple reaction monitoring. The developed method was linear over the calibration range for all two substances under investigation, with a r(2)  > 0.99. The detection and quantification limits were 0.3 µg and 1 µg per 100 mg truffles, for both psilocin and psilocybin and the intra- and inter-day coefficients of variation were always better than 15%. Using this method, the presence of only psilocybin was demonstrated in examined Psilocybe sclerotia. The content of psilocybin was found to vary over a concentration range of 59.3 to 167.8 µg per 100 mg of fresh sclerotia.

Just asked my friend who has a masters degree in chemistry from Imperial College London.
He said there could be a multitude of reasons why the effects are reportedly different. The effect of storage, variations in strength by species. Some hallucinogens are different to others (Cubensis Vs psilocybin for example).

There could be an entourage effect at play in that as the study above shows truffles appear to contain only psilocybin, whereas magic mushrooms contain both psilocybin and psilocin (among a few other alkaloids). So there's at least a subtle difference between the two.

However he did confirm that psilocybin is indeed always consistent wherever that compound can be found (and identified at a molecular level) and that any variation in potency is likely down to a number of factors local to both the individual and/or subtle genetic variation of the carrier species in question.

In my experience, dosage plays a huge part in the effects. Which could easily explain the subtle differences.
A small dose of dried psilocybin mushrooms for example 0.2 to 0.4g (something I've been doing every day for a couple of weeks now after reading about Microdosing) has a purely uplifting energising effect (on me). Whereas taking a larger dose 1g and above provides a psychedelic experience.
