Another 20 restaurants around the country were added to the prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand list on Thursday, while 19 others were stripped of the title. The list designates the best restaurants that offer exceptionally good food at relatively moderate prices. For the Netherlands, that means a starter, main course, and dessert for 37 euros per person.

Among the restaurants that where named are top Dutch chef Ron Blaauw's Ron Gastrobar Paris in Amsterdam, a gastrobar concept with a France-in-the-Fifties bistro style. In Den Haag, the two-year-old restaurant Oogst joined the list, with its modern European cuisine, while in Eindhoven the Mediterranean restaurant Valenzia scored the award. Valenzia was started by Adrian Zarzo, who already has won a Michelin star.

Chef Hette Hettema from restaurant Ayla in Rotterdam says she totally did not see it coming. "I did not even know that it would have been announced this morning. So it was really nice to wake up discovering that Anya was in the new entry's list," she tells AD. Ayla's team plans to celebrate the prestigious title with champagne on Thursday night.

Michelin Star awarded restaurants will be revealed on Dec. 11. Michelin's Bib Gourmand Benelux 2018 guid goes on sale for €17.95 in the Netherlands beginning Nov. 23.

Actually feel quite ambiguous about this one...

The Michellin Guide has been the center of a lot of elitism, extreme food snobbing and straight up craziness (if you ever get a chance to see "the madness of perfection", do it, and you'll see what I am talking about). There are also the whole "what happened in Japan" controversy, countless cases where restaurants keep failing to even get included, even though everyone agrees the should be rated with at least two stars and so on... ...and then there are the prices... :( :/

The flip side: more than 5 out of 10 of the best meals in out lives have been in restaurants that were, at the time, awarded Bib Gourmand honours, even if you take value for money into account!

ETA: yes we do, from time to time, enjoy a bit of fine dining, but we are by no means food snobs... ...just look at our TR's and you will e.g. see a nasty addiction to Favorite Chicken
Always know where your towel is! :wtf:

Eddie, I just prefer eating using my mouth, not my eyes, and spending some ridiculous amount of money for a meal that won't even scratch my hunger. Ofc some fine dining is good from time to time, but for me it's form over matter. And it's food, not a fucking painting:) Of course there are some exceptions, like Jiro's restaurant in Tokyo or that street shack in Thailand that got awarded but overall they're too pretentious and kinda lost the touch:)

Can't say anything bad about Broodje Bert tbh, maybe i wouldn't give it a michelin star, but it does the job
