HI,
I'm looking for suggestions for good spice shops in AMS or possibly Haarlem or Edam/Hoorn.
Spices would be a meaningful souvenir, as AMS was really built from its spice trade in cacao, cinnamon, tea, and other trade.
Ideally, I'd like to find high quality cocoa powder and cinnamon powder, and loose leaf green and black tea----maybe in a nice Dutch themed
canister to bring back home---- as I can't bring their best spice
Did you know that at one time in AMS, cinnamon was just as expensive as gold ! Now look at cinnamon, very cheap.
And presently, cannabis is as expensive as gold
My hope: in the near future cannabis become as inexpensive as cinnamon
thanks for any help on the hunt for cinnamon, tea, and cocoa powder ( and maybe blocks of dark chocolate too).

The classic shop is Jacob Hooy at Nieuwmarkt: http://jacob-hooy.nl/. There is also http://www.depeperbol.nl/ at the Albert Cuyp market, and strolling down that street is fun anyway, with Katsu (which I visit at least once for its excellent Dr Grinspoon, at the very least, and civilised surroundings) conveniently located a street away about midway down.
