Cheltenham 2015

Post by Spaldwickapeface »

So guys where are you laying your money this year?

I am looking at these on the Antepost
Supreme Novices Hurdle, Jollyallen
World Hurdle, Rock on Ruby
Gold Cup, Silviniaco Conti

Champion hurdle looks like it will be the best race of the festival, really can't pick a winner for that one

I'm amazed that anyone is ever so firm in their convictions that they can do ante post bets. I usually dither to the last minute, influenced by a variety of sensible and silly factors. You do know that William Hill is guaranteeing a 'return' on the Supreme Novices, as losing bets will be refunded in the form of a bet on the Festival Handicap Chase? I'm looking at sneaky e/w value in the Supreme Novices, so maybe Nichols Canyon or Bentelimar.

Also, I do better at handicaps (unsurprisingly with that sort of strategy), and it's too early to know who's in what. I'll be backing whatever Venetia Williams runs in the Mildmay of Flete (which has been renamed yet again this year, so I've given up and gone back to the traditional name) – she's won the race twice and usually gets at least one horse placed.

Siviniaco Conti isn't going to win the Gold Cup, any more than Beef or Salmon did, for analogous if different reasons. Unfortunately, I haven't a clue what will. I've only had success with big-priced placed horses in that race (can you see a trend?)

But thanks for starting this thread. It's going to be four good days of racing, whatever happens.

Edit: the good news is that the WH free bet can be on any race that day. The bad news is that it has to be done online and is restricted to a total of £25; I was rather hoping to back several outsiders in the Supreme Novice, as I'd have been putting the other bets on in any case, and obviously using the bookies' money to do this would be preferable to my own.

Yup all over that william hill offer as that's who I usually use for my online betting. As far as I read in the terms and conditions the free bet can be used for up to a week after

http://www.williamhill.com/supreme

Always a good time of year to set up a new account with a different bookie to cash in on free bets, thinking betfred bet a tenner and get £30 worth of free bets :-)

I have booked my time off work and will be ready to go, normally bet accross the whole race card so will be glued to the tv through the week. Disappointed not to be going this year, really enjoyed gold cup day last time.

The Mullins horses can't all win, surely, and even if they do, something's got to come second and third. But cheers, Willie, for ensuring that the prices of so many other horses are bigger than they should be.

After hours of dithering (not over yet) I've drawn up the following shortlist, from which I'll do various each-way doubles and perhaps a lucky 15 or two at small stakes. Unless something I read or hear makes me change my mind, of course.

13.30 Jollyallan/Qewy

14.05 Sail By The Sea/Clarcam

14.40 Monbeg Dude/Tenor Nivernais/Cape Tribulation

15.20 Vaniteux/Kitten Rock

16.00 Bitofapuzzle/The Pirates Queen/L'Unique

16.40 Broadway Buffalo/Top Totti

17.15 Cold March/Killala Quay/Keltus

Keltus in the last is a good bet, we have all seen how well Paul Nicolls has been doing in the big races

Good luck all

Only up £15 today, so I'm not bankrupting any bookies tonight, but there is still time.

Shame Annie power fell but what a day for Mullins

Well the better odds I got on hurricane fly's place 9/1 and glens melody 11/2 benefitting from Annie powers fall helped my cause out :-)

With the £20 William hill kindly gave me back for Jollyallens fail I'm investing in a super hienz on her selection, if all seven come in a cool return of £718,496.04. She seems to be stick with the Mullins/Walsh form

13:30 Nicholas Canyon
14:05 Don Pol
14:40 Dane King
15:20 Sire de Grugy
16:00 sire Collonges
16:40 golden Doyes
17:15 bells hill

Where as I prefer the Nicholls/Twiston-Davis approach

13:30 Nicholas Canyon
14:05 Southfield Theatre
14:40 Taglietelle
15:20 Dodging Bullets
16:00 Sire Collonges
16:40 Arabian Reveloution
17:15 Pylonthepressure

Also how cool is the 16:00 cross country race, my favourite

I never touch that one, or the bumper. And this year it's worse than usual, with Enda Bolger running only one rather disappointing horse, and some French horses that mean nothing to me. So for the others:

13.00 Vyta de Roc

14.05 If In Doubt/Apache Jack

14.40 Baradari/Dell Arca

15.20 Special Tiara/Mr Mole

16.40 Qualando and something else – maybe Baron Alco or Golden Doyen

Coral is offering 6 places on the Coral Cup, so I'll have a decent e/w bet or two on that and do another smallish lucky 15.
