Do you miss being able to buy alcohol in a Coffeeshop?

Post by Free Ben »

I've been planning my next trip to Amsterdam over the last couple of weeks and it's gotten my reminiscing about some of my past visits. The alcohol ban came into effect not long after my first trip so I have more experience without it being available then when it was so I'm curious to see how you all feel about it.

Personally although I had some good times in Coffeeshop bars on my first visit, I can't say that I miss it. I much prefer a chilled out atmosphere in a Coffeeshop (which doesn't usually go hand in hand with alcohol!) and if I do get a hankering for some beers with my smoke then I just pop to a smoker friendly bar which I think fit the brief far better then the Coffeeshop bars did.

The one regret I do have is not visiting the 420 Cafe on my first visit as from what I've read in some of the threads here it could well have been the perfect harmony of two very pleasent passtimes of mine.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts, apologies for the long winded question!

I still love the 420 Cafe but the change was dramatic when it went dry. Sort of sad to see such an old brown bar have to change. :(

I did the first couple of years after the ban but after finding a few smoker friendly cafes I'm okay.

I sure do miss it. It's a not a major downer, but I really like having a beer with my smoke sometimes.

God yes. I mean, there are PLENTY of place where you can drink and smoke now, so it's not that big a deal--but it was more the idea than anything. Ordering drinks at places like Rokerij, Greenhouse, and Dampkring...well, it certainly didn't suck!

Coffee shops were never about the beer, so for me it's just one thing less on the menu. I never witnessed any alcohol based aggression or shit back in the day, (there were maybe more whiteys though) so yes:)

I have to say, the weed and hash were so good, I didn't even want to drink when I was there.. I think I had maybe 3 beers the whole time.. and 2 of those were at dinner. for me, booze + weed = vomit for sure..

How can you not miss it, surely it was better to have those licences than not?. Plus, no harm to anybody, but the atmosphere in CS/BARs was way better than in CSs. Drinkers talk, where as...stoners talk, then smoke, then think about what they're gonna talk about. Drunk assholes still can and do go into coffeeshops all the time, it's good staff that send them where they belong, much the same way as they do in bars......where they also tell stoned assholes to be on their way too.

Seriously....because weed doesn't mix with alcohol for some, ya don't like a touch more energy in yer surroundings when yer gettin stoned or ya happen to be an asshole magnet when ya go to a pub....It's NOT a good thing to have 500 grams of assorted weed, hash and ice under the bar.... for sale?. FFS, wise up.

No, I don't miss it, however it was nice to have the option of an alcoholic beverage to go with a smoke. Sometimes, depending on my mood, I enjoy a glass of wine (more like bottle  ) with a smoke.

Happy trails...
