White Rabbit

Post by Comus »

Is anybody old enough to remember a coffeeshop called White Rabbit? I was reminiscing about the dam in the 80's and 90's with an old mate and we got onto the subject of which shops had been among our favorites over the years. We both agreed that White Rabbit was amongst the best 5 we'd been to in 30 something years. Are we alone on this?

Well I thought I knew about most coffeeshops past and present but that's a new one on me.

Any idea where it was?

haarlemmerstraat i seem to remember. i'm pretty sure it's where "daily fresh" is now, opposite picasso CS..... it was a squat/co-operative coffeeshop that looked dangerous from the outside to the average tourist but really inviting to european punks and dreds ..... the weed/hash was dynamite and far cheaper than anywhere else in town and they used to be on the venue circuit for bands touring europe. there was a couple of attempts at take-overs by the gangland CS owners but this usually resulted in the whole of the squat/kabouter scene creating havoc for them over the following weeks . there was another similar squat/co-operative CS over in Silo which i forget the name of.

Interesting. Still don't remember it.

I do know that there used to be two Picasso shops once. They used to be on opposite sides of the road. One specialised in hash and one in grass.
