Grey Area
The Grey Area was the first place I hit last summer on my virgin trip to Amsterdam. I asked for something that would not kill me since due to work I had not smoked in five months. On the advice of the weed guy I bought an eighth of Yellow Cab and spent the next 2 hours hiking around the canals with a huge perma grin.

I really liked this shop although on two visits I couldn't find an empty seat to smoke my purchase on site.
Personally I can't see why Grey Area gets such a variety of reviews as both seperate times I was happily served some of the nicest smoke I have ever tried (Grey Mist Crystals) and the service was most friendly and polite.
Being English I was forewarned this shop may try and discourage me from further visits as it was run by 2 Americans - couldn't have been further from the truth, it was the same tall, slim bald dude on both occasions and his effecient service has me watering at the mouth for another visit to one of my favourite shops.
How will I last another 77 days??

Grey Area is a true classic that will always have it's place as a "Must Visit" while in Amsterdam, at least as long as it's owned by John and Steve. Never had a problem with either in terms of getting gear.
The Golden Soles was some of the best hash I found in the Dam. Can't wait to go back for more!
Go early if you want a chance at getting to hang out. Gets crowded a lot of times. I hang for awhile and if a bunch of people come in I split and give them their space. A "Must Visit!"

I have been to the Grey Area several times now, and it has always been a great experience. On my last trip I was treated like a king, so I don't understand what some of the fuss is about!!! They gave me a free menu and lighter, plus I was smoking by myself, so I wanted four different varieties, but not too much. Anyways, they sold me a half gram each of 4077, Yellow Cab, Grey Mist, and Grey Haze, all for the low price of 15 euro!!! I guess a little politness goes a long way. I even requested a bong and they cleaned it out for me, fresh cool water and all
The Grey Area will always be a must visit on my list, and should be for any serious smoker!!!!

Can't hardly wait
To all who have posted,
I've been doing a lil' bit of research for my first "trip" to Amsterdam--can't wait. Just wanted to say thanks to all for the great info about the different coffeeshops. I feel stoned just reading about all the great buds and cool shops to visit. Hope that Grey Area and others live up to the reputation. I'll definately be posting my own reviews once I return; that is, of course, if I can remember anything. lol. I'm actually headed to Africa (Dakar,Senegal) but have planned a lenghy lay-over in amsterdam.
Is five daze enough time to see the sites? What other places besides the plethera of coffeshops are MUST-see sites?
Thanks again.
Peace,
BeNards

I know i'll get lynched for saying this but I really don't get why people like this place. found it for the first time recently and was greeted by a small dirty looking place with nowhere to sit and what looked like nothing to drink(coffee grinder looked as if it had mould). had 2g of yellow cab which was seriously dry and a gram of crystals which did nothing for me. got twice as high off a 0.5 of dampkring moonshine. just had to confess that one vote was me. I will try this place again to double check but at the moment i really don't get it
grey area
I agree with scooberu. Heard great things about grey area and figured I had to go. Wasn't very impressed with the weed. Maybe I made the wrong choice. The guy also short changed me. He made good when I confronted him. Could have been an honest mistake. He did seem very stoned. With all the great reviews I guess I'll try again but my first impression wasn't good.
