Keukenhof worth a visit?

Post by Big C »

I don't know why but I never had the desire to go here in my previous visits. I am evolving in my old age I think 8) . I dunno if I'll go but I'm seriously thinking about it. Stories from any of you? Or if there is a previous thread about this? I typed Keukenhof in the search bar didn't find anything. Many Many things I am thinking about doing :D :D :D

Sorry I'm a lil high and just realized I put this in cannabis strains when it's supposed to be in travel plans.

Yes, but only if you really like flowers, or enjoy moving slowly behind assorted elderly foreigners who are fascinated by the flowers. It's a nice place, but it's a real tourist destination.

:D I dont want to put you off it's a nice relaxing day out from the mayhem of Amsterdam. We went in April and hired bikes by the gates of the Keukenhoef, the weather was lovely and we had a nice trundle round some of those vast bulb fields you see on the postcards :D :D 8). Not recommended for pollen sensitive folks .

They're only open March, April and May. It's the showground and shop window for the Dutch flower producers rather than a botanical gardens say like Kew Gardens, but a stunning sight during those 3 months :D.

Keukenhof is also open in summer as the (somewhat less spectacular) Zomerhof. I also read where there is some kind of bulb markt there in the fall.

Yes! it's NOT worth the 20+euro to find out that you got to pay more euros too see the real Royal Tulip  ..still if you haven't do it...give it a try ;) Nevermind the Tourist tours they offer im Amsterdam you'll end up lost euro's..two best way one is tracking train to leiden and at train station they sell the ticket for bus and graden..or get to Harlem and take bus from there (may be faster) also on leidseplein beside the appel's store or across the street you can take a bus that offers package deal for the bus n gardens < i found out about this after going last year fo first time!!

Try to go on a nice sunny day if you are going to take pictures. I bought a ticket last April in advance and waited for the weather to turn nice before going. Some of the best pictures of flowering landscapes I've witnessed were captured on that visit. They really keep the grounds immaculate and the garden is planted differently every year to provide variety for return visitors.

My biggest task was to find scenes without people in them and I was able to to a fairly good job with the results that I got. I did have to post production crop some scenes and I took many pictures with that in mind.

Amsterdam and area has so much more than coffeeshops that is worth checking out, though, for me the shops are "the main feature."

im planning on going for the 1st time the last week of March. Personally speaking, im looking forward the most to burning a dube while riding a bike on one of those marked cycling routes through the farmers fields.
