Debbie Meyer's cherry has been popped

Post by Debbie Meyer »

Day 1:
We arrived in the evening, so we ate a local bistro and stumbled upon Mellow Yellow very close to our apartment. So now that's our "home base" if you will. Very helpful budtender. We met some nice people. I tried the Silver Haze there. Wasn't blown away. I would say I was buzzed. My partner in crime, was totally high though.

Day 2: Still jet lagged, we got a late start and since it was raining we decided to go to the Rijiksmuem. Then we ate at Srikandi Indonesian restaurant. Had the rice table. Found out that I really don't like Indonesian food all that much. We headed home and stopped by Mellow Yellow along the way. We were lazy and got a pre-rolled Bubblegum Haze. Result- high. It was a nice buzz. Got some supplies at AH and then crashed for awhile. Walked to Mellow Yellow again and this time we got H5 Haze (I think that is what it's called, can't remember) and mixed it with some Honey hash (again, can't remember). The lovely Dutch girl next to us called us "hardcore" for not mixing the hash with tobacco. I laughed heartily over that. Anyway, result was VERY STONED as you might imagine. Took the rest home and had a toke on the balcony.

Day 3: I was up early and ready to hit the pavement. We toured the RLD in the daylight. Toured Amstelkring (holy shit, the stairs) and Old Church. I resisted the temptation to pop into any old coffeeshop and waited until we found de Kuil/420 cafe. Love the place. It was cozy and friendly. The cat was sweet. Tried the Silver Haze there. Very good. And then smoked some Moroccan Caramello in a pipe- loved it. Still have some left and plan to use it in another joint. We bought some NYC Diesel for later. I also got some Hawaiian magic mushrooms at smart shop, but I think I may send that home because I really don't want to start freaking out or crying so far from home (never done it before).

So that's me caught up on my trip so far. Can't say I love the food I've tried here, but that could be due picking the wrong restaurant. The grocery store munchie food is okay though.

Debbie, sounds like you are having a great first trip and tripping over some of the fine gear at some of the great shops.

I suggest renting a bicycle and tooling around. It is a great way to discover Amsterdam. You can experience more of the city in a very stimulating and invigorating way. A day trip to Haarlem is a mustdo, and you can rent a bike at the Haarlem train station cheaply and cruise around that quaint little town.

The reason there are soooo many bikes is that it is really the best way to get around there. Just be careful until you get the hang of it and bike safely.

I also found that I took many more good photos because I could stop and snap off a few pics at any time.

Will look forward to more of your adventure...

Loving the updates. Mellow Yellow and De Kuil are 2 of my favourite shops. Some nice bud/hash choices, leaving me drooling :-). Love the Diesel @ De Kuil :D . Have fun

Niccccce, welcome to the club!!!! Sounds like a good start, go check out Dolphins coffeeshop since you are in that area. Also, don't be afraid of the trams, you can really get anywhere in the city for a few euro, just get a map and plan your route ahead of time, they expect you to pay or show a 'stripencaarte' as you get on. Have a great time, keep us posted. The Van Gogh museum and Anne Frank Huis are a must!!!!

Have fun!!!
Have a great day!!!

Diesel has been hit and miss for a while at 420. I had some issues with black ash after I moved out here so stopped buying it. I'm sure twichaldino had a bad experience with the Diesel over 420 too. A few other people have had it bad, and some have had it good over the last couple of months, but generally I'd avoid the diesel for a while :)

Other than that their SSH is consistently good, as are the Blueberry, Nevilles Haze and Caramello. Oh and for all you Caramello lovers, We know 420 is €11g, and Stix is €9g, well we bought some from coffeshop little the other day, same fantastic quality, but €7g. They have nepal too for €8.

If you like caramello you have to go to coffeeshop little :)

I did see coffeeshop little, but passed by it because it seemed unfriendly by looks of the outside. I know you should never judge a book by it's cover, but I did that time. How's the staff?

Now that I'm back home. I thought I would finish up my report.

Day 4: We waited for Grey Area to open up at noon. I thought the alley it's located on and the immediate area was charming, so it was a pleasant wait. There was a line forming by the time noon arrived. The place was smaller then I imagined. I enjoyed looking at the myriads of stickers on the walls and a picture of Willie Nelson looking totally stoned out of his gourd. If that isn't a ringing endorsement of the place, I don't know what is. The budtender was very friendly and informative. I picked up Silver Bubble, Chocolope, and Mean Martian Green. He even gave me a free lighter with my purchase. We smoked Silver Bubble right there by the window. Definitely my favorite by far.

Our plans to go to Keukenhof that day fell by the wayside. Instead we walked around and stared at the creepy Russian doll shop near the Palace and headed over to Abraxas. The budtender was rather impatient, so we just purchased some Hawaiian (Haze?), and ordered two peach Loozas (I am addicted to this drink) from some chick who was a rule nazi and made us put our water bottles away. We made our way up the winding stairs and chilled out in the deep couches. People started filtering in and it was very relaxed and enjoyable until the rule nazi came up sternly told someone to get their cigarettes off the table. I understand why, but she could have been nicer about it. We talked to a cool guy of Turkish decent for awhile. And then had to listen to stupid pretentious British chicks cluck about parents, boyfriends, and other shit I couldn't care less about. (< no offense to British chicks, I don't paint everyone with the same brush) Later a really nice and talkative waitress came up and we discussed the merits of smoking pure. Turns out she's half American, so we had some experiences in common. She teaches at the Cannabis College, that I remember.

We left and wandered the streets and did some shopping. Ate at this cute little cafe near Grey Area (yellow and white with wisteria vines growing around it). They were out of hamburgers and fries, which we were craving at this point, so we ordered garlic bread and daghap and some beers. It was not tasty whatsoever. Good beer, though.

I went back to Grey Area again and bought some more Silver Bubble and some hash (can't remember what kind, other then it was honey colored). Then we headed home and crashed.

Day 5: We were going to Keukenhof come hell or high water. Made our way to Damrak 26 and purchased our tickets. With time to kill we immediately spotted Cafe 420 and decided to get toasty for our ride over there. We smoked the Chocolope and MMG from the day before and had more Loozas. Got some supplies at a nearby store and hopped on the bus. Keukenhof was lovely and tranquil and I greatly enjoyed it. Only wish the fields were in bloom when we arrived (too late in the season). When we got back to Amsterdam, we stopped off at 420 again (our favorite place to hang, for sure) we decided to refresh ourselves with a bit of Blueberry (8.00 euro) and I finally convinced my friend to use the volcano. She thought it looked stupid, but I told her that her lungs will thank her. She ended up loving it. I decided to go and write our names on the bathroom door and left our mark.

We left and found some Belgian fries with mayo. Delicious! Walked around some more and then made our way to Leidseplein for dinner. We ate at Granadas Tapas Bar. Our best dinner by far. Chorizo, albondigas, spare ribs, bread, spicy potatoes, and beer.

Day 6: Walked to the main post office and mailed some packages. Stopped by 420 again to use up all of our stuff. Shopped some more and rushed to make it back to the tram because we needed to vacate the apartment. Waited what seemed like forever for the tram. We found out that one of the trams broke down and blocked all the other ones. Ended up hightailing it to our apartment just in time. A taxi took us to Citizen M near the airport where we promptly crashed. It's a cool hotel for sure. Great bed, pillows, and blanket. Great TV (free movies on demand and wireless internet access). I did have some complaints. Food choices were a bit iffy and they charged 4.50 for HALF a sandwich. Thank goodness we had stuff leftover from the store. Also the outlet with a US adapter was located near the sink, not near the table which made us sit on the toilet to use our computer. We did have a converter and adapter, but the round faceplate near the table made it impossible to use. Instead we went down and used one of their many computers available. Also, the staff was very friendly and tried to be helpful. It's a nice place to stay for a couple of nights.

All in all, I enjoyed my first visit and hope to go back in the near future. Thanks to all of you for contributing your input on all the coffeeshops. It made that part of our experience top notch. I did look for Soul Rider while at various coffeeshops since he was the only one with a real picture for an avitar. Alas, we didn't see him. I would have said hi if I did. Perhaps another time.
