Back from Prison!

Post by 88516592 »

We're finally back from the Dixon Correctional Institute in Louisiana. HUGE thanks to Ripley for braving white line fever and transporting dogs a million miles this past weekend. You were a godsend! And Desiree Bender earns a shiney tiara for her Arkansas-style chutzpah.

We're still in mid-stream with the rescue efforts, but have a good handle on what we're dealing with now. Some dogs have left already and most of the rest are waiting for flight arrangements. There are about 5 still in limbo with no takers just yet. Here are some pix for those who (like me!) were wondering what the scene would be like down there:

We should all take it as a good sign that a Louisiana prison warden and a bunch of folks in the HSUS made the lives of a few dozen unclaimed Katrina pit bulls a top priority. That's light years ahead of a number of other 'real' shelters who have since destroyed untold hundreds their unclaimed pit bulls, claiming them to be 'unadoptable.'

This is 'Hollywood' below --- saying goodbye to one of his favorites.

I only just read this... and at first it seemed to make no sense at all, But having had a quick look I must say that I've not really seen that many pictures of American Pitbulls and compared to the quite common in the UK (London )Staffordshire Bull Terrier, it's a mean looking beast. There are a few dogs there that are abosolutely fine looking animals...

Makes perfect sense to me. Good effort, preventing dogs being put down has to be commended. Well done
