Really ?
What sport creates riots on a regular basis like football ( soccer ) ?

Its a deeper issue regarding long standing riviarly between different towns etc usually having little to do with football. Such as the West Ham Millwall rivially is to do with Cockneys ( West Ham fan base ) striking on the isle of dogs and the South London workers ( Millwall fan base ) taking on the work. The Manchester Liverpool rivalay is due to the dock work moving from one city to another. The Rangers Celtic rivialy is political and religious. These rivalliys exisited separate from football, its just that the traveling nature of football makes these people from different towns run into each other more ofthen.

None that are played in North America that i can think of .
Part of that i think is do to the fact in North America sports ( lets use baseball as the example ) teams travel massive distances for games and have in many cases long seasons ( 162 games for baseball ) so it is unusual to have the visiting fans be more than 2% ( if that )of the attendance .

Hasnt there been riots after hockey matches?

The other possible difference is , it is not socially acceptable to go to any professional sporting match wasted ( drunk ) , you probobly would not get in , and if you did they either would not serve you or cut you off quickly.

Well i dont know if thats true, the drunkest sports fans are the ones that watch Rugby and Cricket. But there is never trouble at such games.

As for the dig at canadians ...... hmm i find that insulting but also very interesting .
Why is it do you think that is felt ?
Most polls and people that i come in contact seem to think we are a pretty great bunch , very much the peacekeepers and not really hated by anyone .

I like Canadians, im apply to move and teach in Vancover. I have no issues with Canadains, i have no issue with anyone because of the country they come from. The point is the self righteous attitude is a STEROTYPE, much like the English aboard, so the self righteous attitude is unfair as not all canadians fit it, as is the sterotype of the English aboard. Just as your offened by that it piss's people from England off that we are all tared with the same brush.

Please elaborate , im very curios to hear more.
Im happy to answer. :D
I have to say, that the whole England attacking back is true alot of time. The tabloids love a story, so will often repeat only half of what happens if it means more sales.

^ sir nial...football/soccer is by far my fave sport but as much as i hate to admit it you rarely see problems in north american sports with the fans like in football/soccer. the last major incident i can think of was tha brawl at the palace at auburn hills..pistons vs pacers(basketball) in which players and drunk fans started fighting. incidents like this are very isolated to be honest. once in a very great while you'll hear of an incident outside the stadium at a raiders game..a fight or a stabbing but this is few and far between..and to be fair the raiders stadium isn't in the safest neighborhood(oakland, california) by any means. even in the biggest rivalries in north american sports..ny yankees vs red sox..michigan vs ohio state...dodgers vs giants, washington vs dallas cowboys..most of these games end without incident. sometimes you'll hear of a riot after an ncaa game but verrry very rarely. the last time i can remember a riot after a hokey game was after the 94 stanley cup finals between vancouver and new york and that was 15 years ago. someone correct me if im wrong.

i dont know why everyones picking on the english football fans. what about the turkish football fans? i heard of some fenerbache supporters who kidnapped a galatasaray supporter..rapped him and left him in a grave yard. what about the turkish fans who have stabbed he english fans..or the italian as roma supporters whom stabbed the middlsbrough supporters during the uefa cup a few years back. come on folks.

Too right, mate!!
Then, after they fight back when the have been attacked, the media, police, locals, etc, go on about the "English hooligans".

As has been mentioned, it is a small minority of the fans who do the crazy shit, but sadly, the majority gets lumped in with them all.
I am ashamed of the minority of football fans from all countries that resort to violence.
Likewise, so am I, but it is not limited to the sport of football.
I am ashamed of the MAJORITY of british people abroad. I have experienced many cringe worthy times in many countries. English holiday makers seemed to be disliked all over the world. I am English but have a Scottish accent and have lost count the amount of times people have apologised to me abroad, "I'm sorry i thought you were English".
Surely this would make most of the countries i have visited racist towards the English.

I think the reason for this is most countries don't like pissheads as visitors to their countries. Sure there are pissheads from all countries it's just that Britain has more pissheads per capita. Every smoker i have met
abroad, British or otherwise seems more knowledgeable and respectful to their host country.

I thought this was typically harsh. Personally i am an idiot and fuck so that makes me a fucking idiot as well I don't know what a "rascist" is though you English wanker.
Now THAT was racist bullshit!
How about the stereotype of Germans abroad (Hogging all the beach space/lounges with their towels and being right cunts) or the French, or the Irish (having to scraped off the pavement). What about stupid obnoxious loud-mouthed Yanks, Exceedingly dull and self-righteous Canadians, etc. Which stereotype do you think is acceptable to use?

A recent survey came out that found the British as the number 2 overall best type of tourist (After the Japanese) (according to hoteliers, restauranteurs, waiters, and so on). (It was in the news about two weeks ago, but I can't be arsed to track it down). The survey ranked on many items including politeness (apparently one of the main reasons the Japanese were tops), and so on.

so its not ok for someone to attack your travelers but its ok for you to call canadians dull/self rightious, americans stupid and obnoxious or attack the germans and french? doesn't seem cool to me.

iv been traveling alot since i was a little kid and i havent really noticed one group of tourists who were worse than the other. except maybe japanese tourists who are loud in and or take pictures in in appropriate places. thats not a huge deal though.

you guys ned to smoke a j..do a vape..bong hit or w/e and calm down..this is the internet people. not that big of a deal.

It's not always the English football fans that cause trouble or get out of hand, just look at the trouble some us Brits cause when we go to Ayia Napia, Ibiza or even our own town centres on any given weekend.

As someone mentioned earlier English football fans getting a bit loud and causing a bit of trouble is much more paper worthy than a bunch of fans form oppossing teams, sharing a few beers and generally getting on....

Hey man, i was only trying to prove the point that violence can happen in any sport and that its not just football. The thing people have to remember, is England is a conventational country which also has a love and respect for fighting. Its the way the country is, passion in England can easily over spill into a fight . People in England have always had fights, look at the Mods and Rockers for christ sake, they used to ring each other up, meet on a beach and kick the shit out of each other. With no football teams involed. These fights in England would happen no matter what, if football was around today or not, it would not matter. Its not the fault of England, or the fault of the English in general or the fault of football. The people that cause the trouble are usually from the rougher parts of England where there is a tradition and love for fighting, its not like they see it as a huge deal.

i didn't know canadians were stereotyped as dull and self-righteous! i am lucky to have met some of the coolest canadians (from bc, montreal, toronto, calgary) here in london, i love them and plan to live in vancouver for a year or two in the future. i also love the way they say 'about', no sarcasm, i really do

this is the controversial bit:

as far as stereotypes go, we all know it's unfair, we all know it only applies to some and we all know it's borderline if not racism. the truth is, stereotypes occur because they have some validity in them, so we should all go way past arguing that they're unfair and accept the fact that they happen because there's some truth in it ... even if some.

label me ignorant, but i've studied years worth of this political, cultural, philosophy shit and i'm sick of denying truths to be "politically correct" - then we're just as bad as the mainstream media who pretend to be "neutral" and "objective" but are just as pretentious and fake and comparable to your modern-day right wing facist. but my no means am i post modernist 8)

Dis-agree with your statement on two levels. You seem to be ingoring the technique used by rasicist organisations to create false sterotypes of people, see early Catholic teachings on Judaisim. You also assert Fascism as a right wing position, this is hugely debatble as it is a more of a position to hold rather than a right or left wing branch of politics. Used as a insult between the two apposing theologies usually.

The most obnoxious and loud behaviour from Brits i personally saw in Dam last weekend wasn`t from the Sunderland supporters, but one or two stag parties.

I think most Sunderland supporters were shellshocked at being invited to this tournament, sharing the stage with footballing giants like Ajax and Benfica

BTW great goal Liquid Swords!

"Hockey.....it IS a fight on ice. "

I'd rather the fighting be done on the ice by two sober men than in the streets or stands by crouds of drunkards who think they have big dicks because they have " croud mentality "
