Noobie looking for a guide

You know the saying -- Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. Well I was fooled by Amsterdam once, and this time I'm fighting back (and I need help).
A couple years back my wife and I went to the dam in search of relaxation and fun. She had never partaken in the stuff. I had (back in college) but was always just the smoker not the buyer/preparing/bowl packer/bong preparer/etc. In other words, when it came to me, I smoked and then passed it on. (yes, I did chip in for the purchase)
Well, we got to (don't laugh) the Grasshoper and were immediately overwhelmed by the downright rude budtender and the "hidden" menu. We did what any tourists would do -- "uh... three joints please."
We huffed down the joint like it was weak ass college stuff and proceeded to be absolutely floored (in a very bad way). I won’t go into too much detail but there were some very upset stomachs involved.
This brings us to our upcoming trip (August 12th-14th). Determined to not make the same mistake this time and now in the company of our friends and neighbors (who are even less skilled than we are), we’ve started researching. Boy let me tell you – it ain’t easy to come up to speed. Who knew that getting messed up would take an advanced degree in botany.
This is where (I’m hoping) someone here can help. I’m looking for a guide for either the evening of the 12th or daytime on the 13th. I need someone knowledgeable in the ways of the weed. Being overachievers and (in general) intellectuals I thought that it would be fun to get a little course in weed. Perhaps a little history, perhaps a little primer on sativa vs. indica vs. hybrid vs. all the rest, and then MOST DEFINITELY we all want to do some lab work…. I thought that it would be fun to roll, to grind, to pack, to vaporize, to spacecake.
Basically, we want to be able to have fun without being hampered by the fact that none of us knows what the fricken-frack we’re doing.
Obviously, we’re willing to pay whatever is deemed a fair price. Likewise, we’ll probably have plenty of stuff to share.
What do you think?

The best guide available is Ganja Tours
www.ganjatours.net
Milehile who runs the ganja tours is a member here, a gentleman and an oracle of amsterdam knowledge.
His tours are exactly what you are looking for and you will certainly come away educated about marijuana and the amsterdam scene.
This is my recommendation and would be much safer in terms of what you will receive than finding a non-professional guide.
Check this review thread.....
Twichaldinho's Ganjatour Experience
However, please do not be put off by your first experience. If you read throuh the coffeeshop reviews and travelouge forums you will find a wealth of information about great shops where you will be helped by knowledgeable and friendly dealers who will not take advantage of your lack of experience.
Ask all the questions you wish and you will discover how to identify a quality smoke and find tips on how not to be ripped off.
Go to or arrange a
Meet and Greet in a coffeeshop with ACD forum members and you can get a free education and have a nice time with some new friends.

Welcome to the forum.
You have been posted on the August Whos In Town page.
You can see who else may be in town during your stay.
toolsheddaddy is haveing a Meet and Greet on the 13th.
By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.
https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/profi ... le&u=36541
I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.
You aren't a first timer, you are still getting my S G Collins recommendation
I think a read of this will maximize your efficiency once you get there.
How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.
I second the advice on ganjatours. Excellent value for the euro and insider information that you probably couldn't find elsewhere.
You may want to practice shop on the Coffeeshop Menus page.
Enjoy

Pretty sure Ganja Tours will need to be contacted in advance.

I think Milehigh is taking a break over the summer but i would contact him to make sure.
His last post was this!
milehigh wrote:The pleasure was all mine. Twitchanaldo is a fine guest and a true lover of all things ganja. It is always nice to tour around with someone that knows his stuff. As you now know, the bike is really the only way to go.
Ganjatours is taking a break through the slow summer but will be back in the fall. We like to get out of town sometimes too.

Don't worry, you don't need a degree in botany to get high

you don't even need to know about indica and sativa. Just go to a decent coffeeshop (read the threads and trip reports ion this forum), ask to see some bud. choose a mid-price-range bud (10-12e/g) that you like the smell of, roll and blaze away! Roll a small 'un to get started with!
p.s. ganjatours looks great, you might want to look into that

I'm glad to report that I (we) had a MUCH better trip this time. It wasn't all that varied, but man was it fun.
We settled on Abraxas as our coffeeshop. This time we didn't fear the process or the people and that made all the difference.
Asked the budtender for advice. He recommended the Abraxas Delight. That was perfect as we were looking for a sativa. We then found the vapo and explained that we had NO idea what we were doing. The guys at Abraxas showed us how to grind the stuff, fill the vaporizer, and fill the bags. He even alerted us when one of our party bolted to go throw up immediately following the hit.
The nice woman behind the bar came out with warm sugar water when my wife hit hard. Overall, they couldn't have been nicer.
I should say that we got much better narrowing in on the correct dosage over the following days. We were wimps in some ways. We always trucked over to Abraxas and always had the Abraxas Delight, but that worked well. I had the most magical trip through the Dam. Time slowed down. Colors got super-saturated. The birds flew by in super slow motion. The world looked like one big movie (with respect to 24fps) and one big HD video with respect to colors. There was even a bit of 3D being flattened to movie 3d (you know the odd layering of 3d). Anyways.... magical.

Peace
