That would be the best way. I played around with an iPhone at work for a while before I took the plunge...

For now you will not be able to find any device that can compete with the touch-flick you get from an iTouch/iPhone. Although I realize people want to consolidate down to 1 device, I feel sticking with your current phone and waiting to pick up the next gen of iTouch is the way to go...

You get WI-FI (no $30/month data charge!), larger storage space (rumored to increase to at least 64GB) and they're planning on adding the camera/video functions as well...my wife has a 2nd gen 32GB iTouch which I think is absolutely amazing save for the small hard drive and no camera/video.

Before I had the iPhone I had an Ultimate imate PDA type thing with a rather funky sliding keyboard, that ran Windows Mobile. Then I realised I was spending most of my time trying to make it look and behave like an iPhone so I traded it in :-) - luckily I bought it on special offer in the first place so I only lost about £20 on it.

These are VERY fragile phones. You'll only have to drop it once and something will stop working.

I'm on with the T-Mobile G1 which runs the Android software, and it is far superior IMO.

Really happy with My G1, faultless service and the range of apps is amazing! Especially the metal detector, helps me find my keys on a regular basis! Only complaints with the G1 is the battery life, and the mp3 player, but kept on the iPod for the tunes.
