i believe the closest you will get to any purple strain in amsterdam is purple kush. i think green place does or did a purple kush. grey area had a purple wreck on their menu last year i think. other wise it will be crap outdoor purp in amsterdam which isn't the real deal. if you see purple haze in amsterdam and its in the 3-6 euro per gram range its most likely not legit purp. if your ever in north america or know a grower u may also be able to find some legit purple kush, purple urkle, grand daddy purple, purple power, purple pineberry etc. alot of the purps iv had here in the states have been more on the indica side.
educating myself and waiting for the next trip.

yeah i agree with usbl.. most likely much better smoke out there.
and purple means shit. lol and as bong just mentioned.. it may not even have anything to do with the actual genetics.. pretty easy to get purple nugs actually.. i do lower the temps sometimes with herb that i feel should be purple based on the name or something. i find many of the people i show always pick the purple nug over the regular nug.. even of the exact same strain from the same clone.. just grown a bit different.
i think it just makes it look more chronic to people who dont understand the growing process.. i guess it looks prettier
just my 2 pennies worth.

I agree with most of the posts (the others indifferent, no offense). Purple Haze (weed or acid) was/is just a name that has been tied to Jimy Hendrix. The important aspect to me is how the gear makes me feel and not the name. I could gather a few strains, cross them, then name it something like what it tastes like (berries or orange), similarities to other known strains, or one of the strains in its lineage. Or I can name it after the geographical location where I grew it, etc, etc, etc... I hope you get the point.
My opinion, the commercial Purple Haze that you refer to probably does not exist as it once did (if ever), having been crossed many times. Try to find information that may describe what the original PH looked, smelled, and tasted like, not to mention the effects. If/when you find a strain with the name Purple Haze, you will have a better idea of what to expect.
Good luck.
Peace
