A reason to celebrate

Post by Puffin13 »

For those of you who are interested, this weekend, August 15, 16 & 17, is the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. Anyone have any celebration plans?
I will be "gettin down" with some friends, playing stoner board games and listening to some good ole hippie rock n roll. :D
Have a trippy weekend, everyone!

Yay! I collect loads of Woodstock stuff, posters, books, badges etc.....not to mentioned pretty much every dvd and cd about the festival haha! Ok a bit geeky maybe, but this all started when i was 16 going through my 'hippy' years.

I'm tempted to comment on all my fave parts of the festival but there are too many, so i will just post the most appropriate part of the DVD here....and a great song to go with the video!

I've heard a lot about it seeing as how Bethel, NY is about an hour from where I am ;)

Unfortunately, I'm far too young to have experienced the festival. Can't believe it's been 40 years, though!

Way too young to have experienced the original Woodstock but I was at Woodstock '99 and, good lord, I'm surprised I survived. Never again.

We are having a 40th anniversary of woddstock party at our house. We have 60s monopoly, grateful dead trivia pursuit, we have the documentary of woodstock that will be playing on the tv in the bar area and the whole music set from the bands which will be playing thru out the house and grounds. we are expecting 50 or so people. IM excited. I cant wait. Unfortunately since we have to work this weekend, it will be next weekend. still the mood will be the same. Of course plenty of good bud will be here and Im sure knowing some of our friends some hallucinagenics.. hehe

Sounds like you have a groovy Woodstock weekend planned, Cattles. :D It will be loads of fun, I'm sure. Can I suggest that you try out the game of Feds N Heads instead of Monopoly? FnH is a Monopoly style game, except that you score weed instead of properties. It really is a cool classic stoner game. 3 Days of Peace and Music.

it was 40 years ago today ... and what do i remember ???

i remember a very early start from boston in my van packed with friends ... a long drive westwards ... increasingly heavy traffic but no stoppages ... finally had to park the van on the grass next to the road about 5 miles from the site because the traffic was just not moving any more ... then a long 2 hour walk ... but utterly fascinating to see the two worlds old and new mixing and mingling and all being completely puzzled as to what was happening man ... arrival at the now free festival and seeing the massive stage and structures and a huge bowl of a hillside filled with people ... heard the announcement about the bad acid ... music music music ... then the dark clouds arriving quickly and the wind picking up ... the announcement about get off those towers now man now now now ... the storm hits ... everyone gets wet ... the storm passes ... the music starts again ... music music music ... with the many journeys back and forth by the many people on the hillside the green hillside is now mud mud mud ... nightfall ... getting colder ... no money no water no food no girlfriend no other friends no smoke ... what? ... a long night ... but then alvin lee and ten years after singing going home ... magic ... just magic ... what mud? what cold?

Really good to hear from someone who was at the festival!!

One of my favourite lines from the DVD......

"I'm going home......by helicopter" ~ Alvin Lee
