Again, thank you all for the very kind comments and "thank you"s. Many of you provided info and inspiration for our trip and you deserve to reap the fruits of your labor as well
I do apologize for not going through as much gear as I know a lot of you would have, though. We're really not that heavy of smokers (mostly because I can't stand the quality of what's available to us) and our accomodations made it difficult to freely indulge ourselves. Every night we had to wait until the "coast was clear" (which means waiting for customers to leave the damn outside patio restaraunt), and be concerned over the smoke detector, which was a huge pain in the ass. Also, being so far from the city we couldn't just go back to our room any time we liked to smoke or drop our stuff off, etc. This is why we will for sure rent an apartment or something similar that is located centrally. Or, we'll stay in a different city where we have no choice but to stay close to the shops
Also, I wish we had met a few other local (and not so local) forum members. Hippy was just fuckin' awesome...and TBH, he saved our first day. Hopefully, we'll eventually be able to do the same for someone else. Pot/Amsterdam afficionados meeting, hanging out, and helping each other is definitely a beautiful thing
Looking back and reading through our report was actually a lot of fun and somewhat comforting in a strange way. Being home means being sober (as I now refuse to pay good money for bad weed) and reliving our trip has brought back some theraputic memories. Just last night we were sitting outside of Starbucks (I know, I know...but they were the only place open late enough) drinking coffee and I made the comment to the Mrs and our friend, "This is really making me wish we were sitting outside of Amnesia or Basjoe instead.". The Mrs fervently agreed and I longed to be smoking a joint with our coffee. Having the freedom of not being worried over legal ramifications is just something every smoker needs to experience. Yes, it does fuckin' blow to come home and go back in to "hiding", but the memory of your freedom can't be locked up and that in itself is quite liberating. We're going to have buy a house out where it's somewhat remote so we can have friends over and smoke on the deck or something. We'll do our best to create our own coffeeshop patio
@ cheese: It IS amazing how quickly you can fall in love with Amsterdam. As I said above, we both miss it terribly...and TBH it has been depressing me a bit over the past couple of days. Secretly, I've been hoping that I'll wake up back in the 'dam and coming home was just a dream. I certainly wasn't prepared for how much of an impact the city would have on me *sigh*.
BTW, what pictures are you talking about?
@ cisco: Thanks, man *high five*! I really enjoy writing, although I rarely have the time and I don't feel I'm all that exceptional at it. I'm extremely happy that you liked my style of reporting, though. Believe me, we can't wait to be able to write another travelouge as well!
Speaking of pictures...there are a few I'd like to put up that didn't quite make it in to the report. I'll have to grab them off the Mrs' laptop before she leaves for school...which is tomorrow....SHIT

I moved some pics to Imageshack and damn it's a lot easier to post them now. So here's a few random pictures that I failed to get up in time.

Poffertjes! Son of a HO...they were delicious!! We went the the Studio 2 Lunchroom right across from the flower market and got these on our last day. I can't believe I forgot to mention that we had finally gotten these. Well, I suppose I can believe it considering our...err...condition
BTW, I quickly have to add; a good tip for Americans would be to mention that in restaurants you don't sit at your table and wait for the check to come...most of the time. On a few occasions we sat longer than was necessary and then remembered, "Oh, right...we have to get up and go pay."

Right after the delicious poffertjes, I thought I'd put up this wonderful pic of some herring we ate at an old fishing village. It was...umm...interesting

Here's the obligatory windmill pic. The Mrs took this and I think it's pretty decent. The full resolution pic is much better, to be fair.

These......are fuckin' SICK! We absolutely loved them. I could definitely see myself wearing these up on stage at a metalcore show

No, this isn't us....LOL
We did, however, find it hilarious and decided to take an ironic picture of tourists taking a stereotypical tourist photo. Good times...

We saw these beautiful (and quite interesting) bridges all over the place. Kind of strange to be intrigued by something so simple...but we thought they were mega-cool *shrug*.

I'm sure a LOT of you know where this is! Come on....you have to know. In fact, I won't tell you and let's see who chimes in first
I will say that this was one of our favorite spots to get baked at.

It's a bit hard to make out, but this is a picture of someone driving a boat shaped like a piece of birthday cake! No, I'm not shitting you
Seriously, for a few seconds we were trying to decide if we were tripping or if this was reality. Somehow, we managed to yank the camera out and snap a pic...whilst higher than kites and laughing our asses off, of course

As we walked up to CS for the very last time (on THIS trip at least) we decided to take a picture of the countless number of parked bikes. It's quite a sight to behold in person, I must say.
Oh man, I forgot ANOTHER good story from our last day! Well, after taking the picture of the bikes we hopped our train back to Schipol. We found this ridiculously good little ice cream place in the airport and proceeded to murder one scoop each of coffee and caramel ice cream...in a cone, of course. We ate and waited and finally the shuttle arrived to take us back to the hotel. Towards the end of the ride we remembered that we hadn't eaten dinner! Keep in mind, we destroyed a joint of Silver Pearl not long before this so we were pretty out of it. As the shuttle gets even closer to the hotel we're struggling with either eating in one of three hotel restaurants, finding another outside the hotel (but close enough to walk to), or just getting room service. As we're wrestling with the issue we notice that there's a restaurant literally across the street from the Dorint. It looks like a decent place and is called Wings. Being Americans (and utterly baked) we thought, "Hey...chicken wings!!" LOLOLOL!! Oh damn...we still laugh our asses off over that.
So we stroll across the street and as we're coming up to the doors we start to notice that this place seems a lot nicer than a wing-joint should be. We then notice it's called Wings because it overlooks a few stretches of runway and plane hangars...and is obviously a businessman-type of place. Makes sense seeing as how we're surrounded by office buildings. Now we're just trying to decide if we're too high to even function in a semi-upscale environment! As we're standing outside on the restaurant's front patio an attractive waitress starts to come straight out the door towards us (there's no one seated out front, either). We turn and give each other these simultaneous looks like, "Oh, shit! What should we do???". She honestly couldn't have been more nice, though, and asked us if we'd like to sit. "Ummm....sure.", I replied. The waitress seemed a bit nervous to us, though...and we couldn't figure out if it was because we were obviously baked or if she was apprehensive about her English. This became more confusing when she brought out a menu and proceeded to apologize because they didn't have any in English! She did explain a few of the dishes and made a few suggestions, though. After I attentively listened to her, she seemed to calm down a bit, which helped ME to relax a bit as well. Although, the Mrs was still quite paranoid...which I found hilarious at the time
She kept saying things like, "Why did we come here?? We should go! The water came out in GLASS BOTTLES!
" LMAO! It was GREAT! Man...I'm gonna be in trouble when she reads this
ANYway, this is dragging on but we ended up getting two different kinds of ravioli and they were both outstanding! We were able to comprehend the prices, which were actually quite reasonable for the area we were in. I'd say the most expensive meal was around €17. Our ravioli dishes were like €12-13 I believe. Even after seeing the prices, the Mrs was still freakin' out, though...lol *shaking head*. She finally calmed down about half-way through her meal and then we just sat and chilled for a while. Again, this was another instance in which we sat for too long and forgot that we had to go in to pay
After we had finished, the waitress came out to collect our dishes and exclaimed, "Wow! Empty plates! Must have been good.". "It was excellent! And uhh, yeah...we were pretty hungry....." *snicker*
So we had another great memory to add to our many others. It's a fun story to tell to our non-smoking friends as well because they just don't get it. They haven't experienced the, "Oh, no! Is this person going to be pissed that I'm high and freak out?? What should I do...what should...I...*food is placed in front of you*....wait, what happened?"
I hope this stuff isn't too boring for you all...I'm just having too much fun posting and reliving it

M4M- I know what you mean about forgetting about the fact that you will not actually get in trouble for being high. I'll never forget reading my guide book on my first trip to the dam and being shocked that it advised you to ask a police officer for help if you were having a bad trip.
My Mr. and I cracked up to no end all trip about going up to a cop and saying, "Excuse me officer, I am having a bad trip, can you please help me?"
Then we took mushrooms for the first time, and were sitting in Dam square watching the people when we saw a friend of ours (from the U.S., a professor.) Mind you we were only 22 and freshly graduated, and he had been a coach and teacher to us at a summer institute for years. My husband didn't believe it was him, but it was. We hung out all day. He's the man who taught me how to really smoke in the Dam. He had at least 11 different kinds on him at the time. (We had 1.)
Ah, Max. If you're out there, thanks man! We should have a smoke sometime.

no need to apologize, when we were smoking in the late 60s it wasn't how much you smoked, it was how well you smoked ... and that is how i still try to do it now ...metal4mullets wrote:I do apologize for not going through as much gear as I know a lot of you would have, though.
