Nicely done, Mark *golf clap* :) You were the quickest to the draw as I know there are many people here that can recognize Basjoe's as if it were home. If we're ever fortunate enough to meet up you've won a Looza (or other beverage of your choice)! Just remember to hold me to it ;)

@ Boner: That truly surprises me! You should definitely give it a go. It's certainly an experience :)

@ Valo: You're quite welcome. It was my pleasure, for sure. To be fair, we have a night pic of Basjoe and it's definitely a different scene :)

@ cheese: Glad I got those pics up then! And you're very welcome :)

Geez...I don't think there were any shops around the Dorint! It's WAY out there and is mostly office buildings and such. I'd be pretty surprised if there were any close by.

The herring was basically raw...it was pickled. Umm...I can't admit to liking it, but I wouldn't say it was terrible. Although, the fatty skin part made me feel a little green :? I absolutely love sushi, though...and this was nothing like it!

@ Twich: We loved Studio 2! I actually picked that place after reading your recommendation in the Poffertjes thread. So I have to thank you for that :) It was very cozy and the staff was friendly...even with the many people around crowding the streets of the flower market and making the outside waitresses job a bit more difficult. The poffertjes were amazing as well...AND quite inexpensive at around €4.

It was my pleasure to put the pics up. And yes...the view from Basjoe gives us pangs of regret for leaving *sigh*. I'd give anything to be sitting there right now as well. Damn reality! *shaking fist*

Thank you all again for the kind words. I keep reading about all your M&Gs and am fairly sad that we weren't fortunate enough to better coordinate our trip. Hopefully, it will work out some day and we'll get to meet up with everyone. I keep hoping and praying that money will fall from the sky and we'll be able to make it to the April 420 meet-up :D

geekymonkey wrote:M4M- I know what you mean about forgetting about the fact that you will not actually get in trouble for being high. I'll never forget reading my guide book on my first trip to the dam and being shocked that it advised you to ask a police officer for help if you were having a bad trip.

My Mr. and I cracked up to no end all trip about going up to a cop and saying, "Excuse me officer, I am having a bad trip, can you please help me?"
LOL! Seriously?? That's awesome!! Honestly, I don't think I could ever do that. It's just way too burned in to my psyche to be wary of the police. I certainly agree, though...that would probably be the funniest damn thing to ever witness :D

Also, you and the Mrs would get along beautifully. She ALWAYS wanted to pull one of the cameras out and take pictures of this or that. We were always wary of looking too touristy, though and she kept holding herself back. Although, the dSLR got quite a workout on our designated "Tourist Day" and that filled her photo-fix for the trip ;) I'll make sure she knows that you liked her windmill pic as well. She'll definitely appreciate it :)

@ SS67: Thank you....again :) I'll do my best to cut down on the apologies. We really wanted to focus on getting a modest amount of top-shelf gear and not be so baked that we couldn't fully appreciate where we were and what we were doing...especially on our very first visit. So thank you for your comment regarding that. I'm really very happy that you enjoyed the report as well.

Also, I'll let the Mrs know that we should follow your orders and return ASAP to get another report up :D

Just re-read this thread from the start and have to say how much I enjoyed it.

Hope you dont mind, but I use that Basjoes patio shot as my desk top... it's awesome! Makes me feel like I'm sitting there all the time.

Cheers!

Nice, TC!

And thank you yet again for the compliment. I know our report wasn't the all-out smokefest that SOME people can pull off *cough - glaring at TC - cough*...but it was still one of the best experiences of our lives. Every week we discuss how to make our return ;)

Of course I don't mind if you use that photo! In fact, let me know what resolution you're running and I'll get you an appropriately sized version when I get the chance...if you'd like.

Thanks TC for toping this thread.

M4M, really enjoyed reading your report brought me back to my first time in the Dam, it was a pre taliban Afgan weed that got me at the bluebird. That is when we, my wife of 35 years and I, came up with coffee shop rule #2: take your spoon out of the cup to prevent poking your eye out when you go face down.

Thanks, Will *high five*! :D

Yeah...that was quite the experience. Wouldn't trade it for anything, though ;)

Definitely brought back a lot of tips and ideas for our next visit. I'm adding the "removing the spoon from the cup" tip, though :)

Awesome, simply awesome. Writing is a passion of mine and reading this entire thread was a pleasure - I'm glad it's been brought back up for a noob to look at.

A few more days at work will drag hard but on Friday I'm off to the 'Dam. If my report is half as good as yours M4M, I'll be happy!

Wow...well, thank you for the praises guys. This forum inspired (and routed and planned and etc., etc.) our trip so I wanted to do what I could to pay everyone back. This is a great place with a really good group of people so anything I can personally add makes me happy :D

Wilko...you'll have an amazing time, I promise. Just remember that whatever you plan will be very loosely followed ;) Take care of yourself... and now I'll be looking forward to your report! :D
