Licensing laws re:children in bars/on coffeeshop terraces?

Hi we are going to Zandvoort next week with our one year old son and wanted to know if anyone is aware of the rules regarding children in bars/on coffeeshop terraces?

Are kids allowed into bars with their imbibing parents?

Obviously inside coffeeshops is an absolute licence removing no-no but would sitting outside places with large outside areas such as Yanks and the Grasshopper be permitted?

Nobody under the age of 18 will be allowed in any coffeeshop, not even on their terrace. they take this rule very sseriously as they could lose their licence.

I take the kids with me once a year, I spend the daytime doing family things with my kids and missus. My boy hits the sack around 7pm then its my time and i hit the CS while the missus enjoys the TV and a well earned rest.

I dont drink so cannot help with bars but i would never take my kid near a CS or bar apart from walking past. Even if kids where allowed on terraces of CS i would not subject them to it at such a young age. Afterall you need to be responsible and guide your child through life in a safe manner.

i agree with kermit. as a parent you should not be thinking about taking kids to a cs at all. it is harmfull and totally lacks any sense of responsibility.

Well each to their own of course but my missus and I enjoy doing the same things together, including smoking, so I would not be going out to a CS to enjoy myself and leaving her to babysit every night!

With regard to coffeeshop terraces I wondered if they were covered by the same grey area that outside areas of some pubs in the UK are, i.e. kids may not be allowed in the pub itself, but sitting in the beer garden/outside area is tolerated.

Personally I have found the English pub and the Dutch coffeeshop to be the most friendly and convivial places, generally filled with the most tolerant, welcoming and interesting people, so would have no problem "subjecting" my child to such an atmosphere-in the fresh air of course; I won't be passing him the bong!

If anyone local has any definitive information on this and if any of the Zandvoort beach bars are more tolerant to smoking than others, that would be much appreciated.

I haven't seen any kids in coffeehouses thus far, but I could imagine that there are different rules to having a kid in a pub. Because in a coffeehouse the kid is going to inhale a little bit of weed if he's there for any length, where at a bar he won't actually drink any alcohol

The terrace is just an extension of the coffeeshop and covered under the same laws so no you wont be able to sit on a terrace with your kid, the bars are a differant ball game though and you will be allowed there.

My suggestion is to buy some weed/hash and go and sit in a park (vondelpark) and smoke there.

Ive been going into coffeeshops since I was 15! I havent been smoking properly until I was 18 but I was still able to purchase, personally though I wouldnt take any minor into a CS because of the fear that they might lose their lisence.

I dont believe that it would do the child any harm because of its age but any older than 3 would be ify.

I also dont think it lacks responsiblity either(maybe back in the UK), each to their own mate, and its not like you are blowing smoke at the baby or exposing it to something horrific, if you feel ok with it as a parent then go for it you have my support as I believe you are the parent and anyone that tells you how to raise a child is an idiot imo.

I would not expose any child to cannabis smoke. Its a mind altering drug, not for kids. I pro cannabis but anti stupidy, which unfortantly seems to be cutting through this thread.

Brain development at a young age is obviously extremely important, dont mess with it.

Sorry guys I guess its just Ignorance as far as I am concened anyway, not too sure on the true effects of passive smoking, I have never been High off just second hand fumes myself so thought it wasnt that big a deal but quite obviously I was wrong lol.

Cannabis is not harmless, not even for adults. But the effects way up for the cons in our opinions. Anyhow, exposing children to passive smoking (tobacco or cigarettes) or alcohol is not cool. Many people make their children smoke passively, I believe this causes many lung aberrations like astma. Something personal: my father smoked tobacco inside and I think this might be his biggest failing as a parent.
Anyhow, the brains of a child are weak and can be altered easily. They are still in the process of becoming a well working brain. Cannabis can not be good for this.
So, I think it would be extremely asocial and egoistical to take your child to a cs.

By the way: I am thrilled many people agree with this
