Here’s a rundown of the last couple of days in Dam as far as memory serves. This time I was accompanied by two friends (S and T) and my girlfriend (Ms puffpuffgive). We had a smooth and punctual flight from easyjet and popped out of Centraal station at about 10:50am. We met S (who’d had a 12 hr bus ride..!) standing outside the hotel (http://www.hotelgroenendael.com/) at pretty much exactly 11am.

The first port of call was the Green Place. I invested in

Ms Puffpuffgive bought 1g Purple Kush, S bought 2g Purple Kush, T bought 1g white widow & 1g AK-47 (both 8e/g). I also went halves with S on 5g of Nepal (25e? Can’t remember…L)


The back smoking room of TGP is a nice chill place, I hadn’t been in there before. OG Kush is a ridiculously strong and tasty skunk. A thick, complex sweet-fruity-spice taste with a good old-skool skunk hit. Very strong high perhaps too strong for my first spliff of the morning, I inevitably do this- buy the strongest thing on the menu and smoke a big chong of it straightaway- when will I learn…? Had some very good results with this later in the trip tho…

Purple Kush is just as good as it was last March and 2euros cheaper. This stuff has a slightly unique taste I really enjoy- sherbety and floral on the exhale. A strong and very enjoyable high. Highly recommended, also value bud of the trip! The Nepal is AMAZING value for money- not the very best nepali of the trip but still very nice, and at that price (if I've remembered it correctly) you can't complain. A mention to the very friendly & helpful staff here.

We popped into Albert Heijn, I got one of the fruited bread rolls with a slice of cheese in that I always get, along with a LOT of Haribo Color-Rado, nacho cheese Bugles and water. Then over to Grey Area to pick up some Equatorial Sativa but THEY WERE OUT!! Nooo. Was recommended Grey Haze and it looked SICK so got a gram of that 11.50e. S got the same.

Back to the hotel to fill in forms & drop off snacks & burn a couple. S decides to take a nap, the rest of us head out to Doors, I pick up: Afghani Ice 30e 1.2g

MsPPG opts for 10e of Summer Cristal or something. We don’t stay but move on to Bluebird, but it’s too busy & hot in there. Then the lovely lady says she wants frites, so frites it is. We go to Vleminckx Fries and they’re spectacular, hot & crunchy! But they don’t do cheese sauce… mannekin pis do... at this point, I can’t resist any longer- I plot a course for Bushdoctor. This is by no means my favourite coffeeshop but last trip I sampled their Grandaddy Kush Melt Hash and it was AWESOME, you can see my review & some other some opinions here

It’s still just as good as back in March, perhaps slightly harder in consistency. A must-try for lovers of extreme THC concentrates IMO, very tasty, horrendously strong up high. T picked up 1g of Martian Mean Green, we got drinks and headed up to the top levels. It’s pretty cool up here looking out over Thorbeckplein out of an open window. A sliver of Gran Daddy turned me into a dribbling wreck, and T’s MMG turned out to be a very nice smoke too- not as strong as TGP’s batch last year, but very tasty. (Plus, they let him buy 1g of it.. it’s usually 2g purchase minimum at this shop.) I also smoke some afghan ice here but was too mashed from the gran daddy to remember it, have sent the rest home so hopefully further review will be forthcoming..

After this we got icecreams and picked up S from the Groenendael, refreshed from his snooze. After a few tokes we headed out to Picasso’s but it was closed (7-8pm by this point?) so we went to Café 420 instead. Probably my favourite place to chill in the city, great décor/vibe, hot barmaids and good music. Also picked up 1g Blueberry and 0.5g of Parvati Cream 6.50e

The Blueberry isn’t particularly strong but has a pleasant taste and is clean & well grown/cured. Great for providing a bed for a layer of ice hash. We chilled in here a while but the group of backpackers weren’t giving up the window seat so we moved on to El Guapo. A friendly welcome here (the guy recognised me from 5 months ago) and we toked happily until closing time. A couple more spliffs back at the hotel and we were well and truly done for the night.

Oh, and at El Guapo I bought 1g El Guapo Ice 25e and 1g Royal Guapo, a maroc I think, 13e. Both very nice, Ice one of the nicer ‘dutch-style’ ices I sampled over the trip.

Monday August 17th 2009

Awake very mashed from previous evening but make it downstairs for the frugal breakfast included with the room. I pop outside for the first spliff of the day, Blueberry mixed with a little OG Kush. It’s an extremely delicious combination! S&T are nowhere in sight so me & the lady head out to Anyday. Hadn’t been here before, friendly with a local crowd, we sat on the bench outside. At one point a cat came by and starting coming on to the guy sitting next to us, who started telling us how much cats liked him as he had three at home. At this point the cat emits a stream of yellow piss onto the guy’s bag! The guy yells at the cat whilst we’re trying hard not to laugh. I pick up a gram of Stella Blue which is fruity & nice but not as standout as I remember Amnesia’s version a few years back. MsPPG gets 1.3g of White Widow, she says this was ‘particularly yummy’. It’s worth mentioning at this point- apparently you can’t roll up on the benches outside Anyday, you have to do it inside but you can smoke outside. After a while we head back to 420 and meet up with the guys.

After much smoking & use of a perfectly clean ROOR bong we got falafel from across the street (YUM) and head down to the Poezenboot, a cat sanctuary on a houseboat. It kinda stinks of cat piss, but if you like cats, it’s pretty cute. We bought some keyrings and junk and then walked over to Picasso. Just picked up a 2g deal of Charas for 20e and crossed the road to Popeye’s. I browse the menu here and the Alladin’s Chocolate 14e/g smells so good I have to get a gram, I pick up a gram of Nepal Cream too 12e/g. Sparking and smoking the alladin’s, it’s like a dream come true, clean pine/choco-mint hit to the sinuses, amazing taste, huge sparkly high. Thumbs up also for the big, complimentary hit on an all-weed water pipe. I like Popeye’s.

T was so impressed by the Grandaddy Kush that he decides he wants some melt hash for himself. A leisurely stroll down Herengracht takes us to Bushdoctor again. T goes for the Chem Dog full melt. This is more of a yellowish crumbly block which turns to dark, sticky oil in T’s pocket. It’s still very strong and tasty but not quite as aromatic & punky as gran daddy. S gets 2g of Laughing Budda Cheese which is AMAZING- extremely strong, sweet, floral/fruity and addictive, with that skunky cheese reek in the background. 2nd best weed of the trip after OG Kush. Very, very nice. All weed from the BD seems to be rather dry but loaded with trichs and tasty.

We drop by Stix and I pick up 1g Gunpowder 12.50e and 1g Nepal Temple Ball 12.50. Nice shop with good product, but they will always ‘accidentally’ put more on the scales than you asked for and then say ‘is that okay?’ in an effort to sell more. I had to be quite firm to get 1g of NTB. and head straight on to the Vondelpark where we spend a very pleasant couple of hours Smoking and chatting in the sun. Did I mention the weather’s been hot and fine? A bit muggy when the clouds come in, or if the C/S’s got no air con.. one of those big ceiling fans is a godsend at this time of year J

Just as we’re thinking about leaving the Vondelpark this Dutch guy plonks himself down in our circle and starts talking to us, where’re we from, do we come to Amsterdam just for weed, blahblahbla. A beggar comes up and hassles him. He glances at the guy and says something in English- something like ‘ambition is the key to happiness’, the beggar practically falls over himself thanking him for this advice, bowing to him and skipping off gaily. Bizarre. Our new friend then proceeds to tells us a funny story about how when he was at school, they would run out quickly between classes and go to coffeeshops to chong down a quick joint! After borrowing some tobacco (which he revealed to be the real reason for his intrusion) he left us and we decided to move on too.



The rest of the evening was shared between 420 Café and El Guapo, after smoking plenty of BD melt hash my girlfriend assures me that my eyes were closed to slits and crusted up with eye boogers. Bedtime I think.

Tuesday 18th August 2009

The last day, I awake early and take a walk to the post office and hand over two envelopes of ‘surprises’ for back at home. Back to the hotel for a bite of breakfast and me & the girl head out to The Green Place as I’ve got a meet arranged with HARRYO from the forums. He’s totally cool, friendly & talkative. We share spliffs and knowledge of ‘Dam for an hour or so, during which time I get a phone call from S&T saying they’ve been kicked out of the hotel room cos it was 10am, and they’ve gotten lost. I try to direct them over the phone to Nieuwmarkt but they end up beating a path back to 420 Café. When it’s time for Harry to move on the girl and I go to meet up with them. Oh yeah, She picks up a g of Silver Bubble 12e after smelling Harry’s bag. This is nice, sweet & strong but not quite as good as the Purple Kush IMO.

I find T&S in the window of 420 smoking a gram of blueberry, I promptly get a ROOR and proceed to destroy T with a Gunpowder bong. Maoz again- c’mon, it’s RIGHT there- then onto Paradox. The budtender is big and friendly, very relaxed vibe here but the shop doesn't feel as 'cosy' today, dunno why! I pick up a small bag of Power Plant 0.6g ?e, and some Dutch Ice for 12e ?g. The Power Plant is decidedly unremarkable but the Ice is dark and solid, floral/minty in taste with a nice hit.

Moving on to Sanementeerung, we stake out the rickety table on the first floor. I’m always amazed by this place, coming on like a bric-a-brac shop/jumble sale, but they do coffee and outdoor weed. I’ve never bought their weed, my friend got some orange bud a year or so back and it was stringy and weak, ‘filler’ bud. Anyway as soon as I sit down with my Earl Grey a cat jumps straight onto my lap and settles down to snooze. I quickly christen him ‘Mr Drooly’. We spend a good couple of hours in here, drinking tea, filling the place with pungent smoke, enjoying the feline company & some good tunes. Awesome. Ms PPG can’t resist picking up a small selection of 1euro antiques and curios.

By 16:00 we had to start thinking about final spliffs… I swing by Grey Area to see if they’ve stocked up on Equatorial but no luck. I pop into Barney’s but they’re cashing up or something and aren’t able to serve anyone even with 3 budtenders. I get 10eurosworths of Pink Kush from Popeye’s instead, we end up in the Doors C/S frantically trying to choke down the last of our respective stashes. The Pink Kush isn’t as good as last March but still pretty nice. S has to leave for his bus and hands us his leftovers, a big wedge of Green Place Nepal and other goodies. We grind up all the remaining weed, roll five spliffs and hand the rest of the hash to some travelling guy who’d sat down for a chat. Then it’s time for one last parade of the grachts doing our damndest to smoke all these fine, fine spliffs.

A smooth flight home, cheers sleazyjet..A very pleasant experience for all involved. ’Til next time, Amsterdam xxx

Tobacco: We smoked tobacco in every shop mentioned. We were discreet and didn't leave tobacco or packets on the table. No-one said anything to us in any shop

I’m pleased to report my postal mission was a success, I’m sitting on a little selection here at home that I will photograph & review in more sedate surroundings. Will post more as I smoke more

Alladin’s Chocolate (Popeye)- still an absolute knockout. Gotta be the hash of the trip. A joy to smoke, don’t think it was this good when I last had it back in.. dec ‘08

Afghani Ice (Doors)- this is SO oily it sticks to the bag and adheres to everything it touches. Strong sharp hash smell, very clean burning. Taste & high is subtler than expected but longlasting & very pleasant, creative. Probably not worth the money in terms of ‘bang for buck’ though. The budtender had an elaborate story about this hash, apparently when they receive it, the block has a real black gold stamp on it and a tiny diamond. He was insistent this was true and not a tourist wind-up story. He was rifling through the baggies trying to find the one with the diamond. I have a feeling this is like the time the guy at Tweede Kamer was trying to tell me the big ‘cannabis urns’ at the back contain the ashes of some guy who really loved tweede kamer

Charras (Picasso)- mm, strong pine-mint hit great value for money. No pic because I smoked it all already, if that tells you anything.


Sensi Star ice hash (Bushdoctor)- crumbles quite easily, not resinous like their AK-47 ice (they were out of that). Rather harsh on the throat with a faint sweet, fruity taste. Solid punch of a high tho, uppy and restless.

Nepal Temple Ball (Stix) always a crowd-pleaser, perhaps not quite as spicy and strong as Mar ’09 trip

mmmmmm Amsterdam.nice write up with great pics; i wanna eat the Alladin’s Chocolate. glad to see Purple Kush has gone down a few E's, cant wait to smoke it again. OG looks good too. too bad you missed the Equatorial Sativa, was there none at Green Place? listed as 100% Sativa? i thought lots of shops like Hunters,Amnesia,Bluebird had the Quaze. thanks for taking the time and enjoy your souvenirs.

Nice writeup man ! cheers for that ! the afghani ice stuff really does look the bomb as does the chocolate stuff ! i find when im in the Dam(apart from most recent trip) i gravitate more to the hash !

pengald- i did have a half-hearted look around for some similar stuff but didn't chance upon it. Not to worry tho, I fulfilled most every other one of my gluttonous pot fantasies

El Guapo Ice 25e/g

Slightly harsh taste off this again but also a taste of STRENGTH- I can only describe it as the dry taste of THC crystals, always in there somewhere when you’re toking a very crystally weed. Escellent strong high. As strong as the Sensi Star ice, and 10e cheaper. Lovely smell off the block tho, fruity & resinous. This is a dry, crumbly yet sticky block!

A nice maroc, but just pales into comparison aganst the Aalladin’s. Still a good smoke, dunno about 13e/g tho.

Thanks for the words of appreciation people. cheese, the most expensive was the gran daddy melt at 55e/g. I got half a gram. Although the one I spent most on would be the afghan ice, which comes prebagged at 1.2g or something, and is 30e.

Nepal Cream (Popeye)- fairly standard soft black hash, pleasant taste & dreamy high.

Nepal (Anyday) & Parvati Cream (Café 420)- I put these together cos they’re the same hash. Well, probably not but they look damn similar, soft, slightly sticky, crumbly and black. More greasy than sticky really. They’re okay, but nothing to write home about. I’m sure the Parvati was different/better than this when I had it a last time. -I prefer the slightly harder more ‘even textured’ black hashes like Stix NTB and Picasso Charras stronger & better taste imo. I didn’t try any rifman this trip

Gunpowder (Stix)- Probably the weakest (and cheapest) of the ices I sampled, still very enjoyable though! Sativa-ish high puts golden sparkles on everything. Was a big hit with my friends who tried it too.

Yeah, I seem to be gravitating towards the ices The friendly dude in el guapo (alan?) said to me, “once you’ve had ice, you can’t go back"!

i think it depends on what your looking for in regards to once you try ice you never go back.

yes it is most likely one of the stronger types of hash but in terms of taste i definetely think some import hashes are even more tasty..

also if im smoking the hash in a pipe or bong i find the imports dont make me choke my brains out as much
