Thats down to the individual hotel, a lot of the bigger ones have smoking rooms.

only 5 stars iv stayed at in amsterdam were the sheraton schipol and the hotel pulitzer. i didn't feel comfortable smoking in the rooms of either hotel. i wasn't really comfortable even having weed in my room at the sheraton schipol. both really nice hotels but i wouldn't call them smoker friendly at all.

Stayed at the NH narbizon palace right across from Cenraal station in june 09 and was very happy indeed.
Ask for a smoking room at the top floor, we stank the place out evry night and day. No problems whatsoever, even smelt weed when we first arrived. I don't think the hotels are bothered really and wouldn't want to lose business. Even had room service and the rooms cleaned daily and not a single problem.
We stayed at the Best Western Blue Tower, any smoking inside was a fine ( can't remember how much), which would be put on to the card that booked the hotel
Last night I was there , I was outside smoking next to the smoking point/wall mounted ashtray? Guy on the desk came out and asked me to please move away as I had stunk the lobby out lol, was smoking Bas Special , was very stinky lol

we always stay at the Victoria and I have never had a problem smoking in them. The last time they gave us a room that didnt have good windows and I went to the front desk and said we want another room, and the guys said, "is it becasue of smoking" <and I dont think he meant cigs>. I said yes and then he proceeds to give us another room in the NON smoking section. So we go on and it had a small balcony and I took that as permission. I have always smoked in this hotel and its never been a problem. FYI. You pay good money for these rooms and as long as you dont abuse them, I dont think they will say anything to you.
I think all the NH Hotels in Amsterdam are pretty much the same price wise (except the Kraz obviously !), my girlfriend works for NH (so I get the rooms for €35 a night !) - and I thought she said the Carlton on Rembrandtsplein was cheaper but it's still at least €105 a night from just having a quick look.
Am picking her up from the airport tonight so will ask her what the best way to get a cheap room is.
Best bet might be to go via another online site - a few posters on here have mentioned getting some bargains.

Could you ask her on the NH Hotel's policy to smoking joints in their rooms, it would be good to get an insiders opinion. As far as i am aware they just ignore it, i have stayed in most of them over the years and never had any bother, but that was before the smoking ban
I've stayed at a few 5 star hotels in Amsterdam over the years and have always smoked in all of them.
I've stayed ay the Krasnapolsky 5 or 6 times as I love the location, and have always smoked there with no problem at all.
I must add that i usually keep the Do Not Disturb sign on my door, even when I'm not in the room, which of course means that I don't have my room cleaned or my bed made, but in my opinion that's a small price to pay.
The room doesn't need cleaning every day, and making my own bed is not exactly difficult.
So if you do the same, I'm sure that you won't have a problem.
I stayed at the Golden Tulip Barbazon Palace one time before the smoking ban came in and I remember ordering a pizza for urgent munchies - when the waiter arrived he had a combination of distaste, discomfort and horror on his face at the sheer density of the cloud of smoke in the room! It was fuckin hilarious! - all in the days of 'smoking rooms' in hotels.
AT month end i have a good deal on a nice 3* near the station which advertises itself as having a few smoking rooms.
Smoking grass in a room that is reserved for tobacco smokers with a window that opens should not be a big deal for anyone. Well use some sense and do not send off the smoke alarm or have a 22 person smoke in within your room or not block your door with a towel.
Smoking anything in a totally no smoking room is quite a different matter.
Those folks want a room that does not smell like smoke. Kicking you out and charging you extra for cleaning is something you should think very possible if you try.
There are hotels that advertise smoking rooms. The NH Schiller has them. Why not try something like that.
As far as NH hotels and the charge.
Folks I know have stayed in them (Schiller, Amsterdam Centre, Carlton, Kras, Carnasa,) for ball park range of $100 USD a night to $75 USD a night during the past year. Tax etc included.
