One of my favorite areas of the Nederlands is Friesland, There is a wonderful small town on the coast there called Harlingen, very beautful town one coffeshop there called Hofnar, good weed prices ok. If there I would suggest taking the the ferry to Terschelling no shops there but wonderful nature ocean views to enjoy. Also Breda more of city than town but nice shops and scenery

Its not a small town, but I really enjoyed the couple of days I spent in Groningen recently. check my travelogue https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9475.
But for days out from Amsterdam then I think the choice is wide, from the obvious like Haarlam and Zandvoort to some little gems like Ijmuiden. (fast flyer from behind central station for 7.50E return) see also my travelogue.
Have fun
Peace

Hehehehe...I like everywhere I've been !
Groningen is nice, student town from what I'm told, was there for a gig @ Oosterport which is a superb venue.
Hoorn was nice (couple of coffee shops but I didn't partake) as was Edam.
Have been to Zandvoort a couple of times, nice fries from the shop in the town square
Been to Zwolle as well, nice market, lovely big stroopwaffels
Oh and Volendam is worth a visit as well, get the boat across Ijsselmeer to Maarken..
I like Purmerend as well (just as well as I'll be living there from next year), nice market square (or it will be when it's finished) with some good restaurants. Don't know if I would recommend it for a visit though. Two coffee shops as well AFAIK, but haven't checked them out.

Echoing aradiasraven -One of my favorite areas of the Nederlands is Friesland..
Leeuwarden has the best local scene we've experienced...with somewhere around 15 Shops in the centrum area...If you want to go even smaller Harlingen IS nice ...as well as Sneek ,with 2 shops and Dokkum -which doesn't have a CS but does have a nice Smoker Friendly bar in Hakuna Matada...Zutphen in Gelderland is as Golden Agey as it gets and has 3 nice shops.Somewhere buried in the trip reports is this Julys impressions /pix.
