I went alone last year for my birthday and it was the best trip of my life....just talk with people...you already have something in common!
If you so desire, you can read about my birthday adventures...

You will have a great time, I always go on my own and just talk, relax and chill with alot of friendly people.
Once you get used to having eyes in the backof your head when walking around it gets a lot easier to avoid getting squished by a tram or cyclist.
Go, enjoy, relax, be friendly,chill-out and you will have a great time.
( I still have just over 2 months to go until my trip, sigh! )

Oh its great since i had to get use to going solo the last fews times since my USA friends tend to be all talk till its time to pay for the trip and its i can't really afford it now CRAP. Lol. I usually run into someone from the ACD site when there and we do some burning together and go our own ways later.
Have fun and meet the people.

Going alone can be a pleasant surprise sometimes! The second time I was in Amsterdam I was alone for a few days as my traveling buddy went back to London before I headed home and it was very cool. As a matter of fact, I met a few people in those days "alone" and was shown around the city in a very cool way and hung out with some locals that I probably wouldn't have met otherwise. I will be in Amsterdam alone in a few weeks (25-29 September) and am looking forward to the time there agaion this year.
As long as you use your common sense and don't fall for any potential scam artists out there (hey, they are in every major European city), you should have a great time!
Enjoy!
