thats shocking, i never heard of a hotel without locks on the doors, how could you go out knowing your possesions are up for grabs to anyone who knows the situation, crazy

No locks on doors? That's against regulations - surely they cant be getting away with that?

Could have been worse - when I stayed at the Quentin Arrive a few years back, it was like a catalogue of health and safety violations...
There was a lock on the door, it just wouldn't lock while you were inside!
The toilet on my floor had been smashed to pieces (well, three pieces) and there turned out to be just one shower between THREE floors, in which someone had taken a nice big dump.
Lost a lot of money there and the staff couldn't give a shit. The lock situation didn't really matter anyway, because you could just walk in off the street, tell them a room number, and they'd give you a key without any further questions, like name etc. It wasn't as if the staff get to know your face either, because everytime I passed "reception" there was a different surly face there.
Sometimes you just gotta ask yourself why are these places
so cheap...
I always stay in the same place now - yeah, it costs a little more, but I get my own clean shower and toilet, and a door that locks on both sides.

The Hoyel Vijaya.
It's nothing flash, but very well located on Oudezijds Voorburgwal, towards the start of the RLD and close to the station.
Ensuite, clean rooms with breakfast and friendly staff and cheaper than a lot of far worse places I've stopped in!
