Problem with drinking water in East part of Amsterdam

Waternet, the water company that delivers tap water in Amsterdam, advises to boil drinking water 3 minutes, for the next 4 days.

The advice is valid for health risk groups such as elderly people, or chronically ill people. Taking a shower is no problem.

In parts of Amsterdam, the water pressure seems to have diminished as well.

There problem is caused by a technical failure in the water cleaning system.

If you are staying in accommodation in Amsterdam, you can consult your accommodation manager or landlord.

The water quality in Amsterdam is actually quite good; apart from the posted article. If there are any peoples that know how to deal with water, it's the Dutch.

We dont normaly eat salad or drink tap water while overseas! + ice cubes are another no no,Ps we know its not 3rd world but its beter to be safe than sorry .

Kingdoc, the quality of water in Holland is a lot better than you get at home.

You wont, you said it yourself when you said Holland isn't a 3rd world country.

In the UK we run all our water through a filter (brita) where as in Holland the quality/taste is a lot better, my wife drinks nothing but water and always comments on how nice the tap water is compared to home, buying bottled water is an unnecessary expense.

mineral water like evian contains more microorgansms etc. than tap water in holland. i think holland is on of the top countrys for living standarts in europe or even worldwide.

Dutch tap water tastes better than most of the stuff I get back in the States... forcing tourists to pay upwards of 2 euro for a little 0.33L of water is just another way to rip you off...

I've been drinking it non stop since moving here and Haven't had any problems...

Go to Albert Heijn & you will get a big bottle for like 80 cence,Spa water i beleive ,Yea boner next time i am gasping during the night in the hotel i will be down for a couple of glasses worth for sure .

the problem with tap water is that it does not have any minerals that you get through mineral water.

and depending where you are tap water also contains benzene (a known carcinogenic), chlorine & fluoride (another dangerous 1 for old people), but it really does depend where you live, different companys use different methods, where i am its not to bad, but my cousins in the west midlands tell me its 1of the worst in the uk & when i go there its true you can smell the chlorine in it. + the government is urging all water companies in the uk to add fluoride to the supplies supposedly to help kids who cant be bothered to brush their teeth (fuck em i say, if they cant be arsed), a cynic like me though reckons its a way to ease the pension shortfalls, same as when they demanded adding folic acid to all flour/bread sold in the uk, knowing full well the dangers it poses to old people.
apart from alcohol, water is all i drink, i love it, always got a bottle of evian in the fridge

I'm with others here, when travelling I avoid the local water supply and buy bottled. I've tasted some repulsive water out of taps both at home in England and abroad. I live 3 miles out in the countryside away from a mates house in a town centre who's water supply tastes awful to me. He can't smell the chemicals or chlorine in it, like me.

Where I live, we don't have to pay water rates as a private water well came with the property. Pumped into the house deep beneath the ground, the water is as natural as it can be, odourless and safe in the knowledge, no chemicals have been added to it. The worse tap water I've ever had was in Torquay, salty as hell, almost like sea water, lol.

What did Stephen Fry say.....there are more particles in a glass of water than there are grains of sand on earth.

Yep our water is crap(I only drink boiled), as you said you can smell it, my missus can also taste it and sometimes its even cloudy and you cant complain coz nothing gets done. If you dont pay they take you to court and do you in that way.
