The coffeeshops should withhold the tax proportion of money made from weed/hash sales and demand the government enable them to sever their links to criminals.

Still, tourists should see a dramatic price reduction for the pot that they buy off the street, as there will be no shop/staff to support, and no tax to pay.

And surely it is against some EU ruling to discriminate people based on their nationality/where they live?

What RLD? its just 50% of what it was 10 years ago,Also they are not immune from any shake up either! looks like the johns will have to find somewhere else to fuck pretty soon as well.

The cabinet's plan to introduce a pass system that would prevent foreigners visiting coffee shops - marijuana cafés - leaked out Wednesday
and AD reports that the Cannabis and Coffeeshop Association (BCD) is furious.

Michael Veling of the BCD fumed: "Banning foreigners is discrimination, pure and simple".

The government's national marijuana pass will only be available to Dutch nationals over the age of 18 and restricts the number of coffee shop visits to one per day and a maximum purchase of three grams.

The government move comes in response to an increase in problems caused by drug tourists in towns and cities along the Dutch borders.

In response, Veling said “the pass system will force drug tourists to buy on the streets and that will cause huge problems".

Maastricht Mayor Gerd Leers has enthusiastically welcomed the pass plan but notes that the European Court could rule against the proposal.

Meanwhile, coffeeshop owners in the southern border city are not in favour of the plan.

"Drug tourists spend EUR 140 million in Maastricht annually. That equals 1,900 full-time jobs, it's economic madness to ban them," said a spokesperson for the local BCD.

The reason I go to Holland (and many others) is not just to get high but because of the laid back culture, if they lose this then I will be going somewhere else 3 times a year!

It stinks of political dogma,@ least people seem to be fighting this s**t now witch is great news.

I can see this bill not being passed thru on 1 ground only!!!

Lets not forget why Weed has enjoyed semi-legal status in the Netherlands... because it was becoming too much of a problem in the first place. By making it a somewhat controlled substance and easy to get hold of in a semi legal way, they had in effect - cut the problem in half.

Now, by making these drugs available only to the citizens of the country is selsective and will cause no end of trouble for the govt. The most obvious one willl be the situation where weed bunners will get to Amsterdam, only to find they cant be served - but hey, no problem - look, there's a street dealer offering us all sorts, even cocaine if we want it guys YAY - and the problem escalates...

I imagine that within a few short months of this new state of affairs, the cells in Amsterdam will be overcrowded full of street dealers and the govt will be forced to overturn their decision.

The way the govt will come around to seeing it is "Taxed, it works for us, un taxed, we foot the cost" end of rant! 8)
... as long as it aint a cheque ;)

Nol's latest post @ Channels:
Well, the dutch Cabinet, the Ministers Council, will allow coffeeshops to stay open, as usual. The pass system will not be applied in general, only Maastricht will start an experiment, which will surely fail.
Amsterdam's Mayor, Cohen, does not want to ban tourists, he thinks the status of tourism in A'dam is not causing problems.

Our Goofy looking Justice Minister, Ernst Hirsch-Ball-in states that banning tourists from coffeeshops may be activated some day, but he does not know when, the retard...

So, buying, rolling, bonging, vaping and smoking cannabis will continue as usual in Dutch coffeeshops, except maybe for Maastricht.

A lot of time and money wasted on nothing, again.

Cohen is disappointed that the supply matter was not mentioned, he suggested licensed growers for coffeeshops earlier. The A'dam Mayor will take up this issue with the Justice Department, the City Council and the Police Department. Seems the present Dutch government is not able to make a step forward, maybe because our religious leaders are a tit backward?

Keep on coming, even the Cannabis Cup will survive!!

I also relate stories to dutch people about what I use to have to go through to get my herb, when I lived in the states, and their jaw drops. They find it hard to believe that it took so much effort and cost so much time & money just to score some pot. It is/was such a sad situation; over a nearly harmless plant. Land of the free!? I dont fuckin think so! Pot n Peace.

Yea this has been in the pipeline for a while now,& the times before where they have tried to push this shit threw has been rules illegal cos of discrimination & so forth so we have that to hold onto,Imagine if americans/english people that came here & we refused to serve them in a bar/tavern the uproar it would cause? looks like to me they are digging themselves a big hole there & people like nol should forget this spain thing right now & fight the home fires i think.

How big is the drug tourism problem anyway, is it just being used as an excuse or is it a genuine case of a significant minority spoiling it for those who don't cause a problem and know how to behave ?
to be honest, I havent seen any nuisance IN or AROUND a coffeeshop. that only goes for cities like Venlo,Maastricht and Roermond, that were the only cities I have seen people from other countries being a nuisance and thats only because they dont do anything against the street-dealers who are hanging around the shops area. go to e.g. Sittard and try to find drug tourists who are doing anything wrong there.....you wont find them. this is just bullshit spread from the christian government
