Choose for Greater Comfort in KLM's Economy Class

Choose for Greater Comfort in KLM's Economy Class
21 September 2009

With effect from December, passengers travelling in Economy Class on all intercontinental flights operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines can choose seats offering greater comfort. The new Economy Comfort zone offers up to ten centimetres more legroom and back supports that can recline twice as far. What's more, Economy Comfort passengers can also disembark quicker after landing because their seating zone is located at the front of Economy Class.

KLM will be offering the new Economy Comfort zone in response to customer demands for greater comfort and more choice in Economy Class on intercontinental flights. The Economy Comfort zone supplements the preferred seats already available at an additional charge. This development forms part of KLM's long-term programme entitled 'The Customer Journey', which focuses on renewing its brand position and awarding top priority to customer demands.

KLM's entire intercontinental fleet will be equipped with the new zone. The first aircraft have already been converted. The remaining aircraft will follow in the months ahead, enabling all passengers to choose for the Economy Comfort zone on intercontinental flights from December.

Depending on the distances involved, the price of the new zone will amount to between €80 and €150 for a single leg of the journey. Flying Blue Platinum members and passengers travelling on a full-flex Economy Class ticket can book Economy Comfort seats without a surcharge. Flying Blue Gold members will be offered a 50% discount and Flying Blue Silver members 25%. The service in Economy Comfort will be the same as that in Economy Class.

Economy Comfort seats can be booked from the end of November at www.klm.com or at the airport using the self-service check-in or transfer kiosks.

I have to say as long as the price difference between the cheap seats on BMI Baby and KLM are not too vast, I will always plumb for KLM (When departing from Birmingham). With KLM I get to pick my seat (no charge) when I check in online (checking early for front row!) and I don't have to pay to take check in luggage with me and the hand luggage allowance is more flexible and generous. Strangely its because you get free drinks on KLM that really sways it for me. A cheeky smile and well timed requests always means I get more that my 'fair' share of free booze when on board.

Its the difference in attitude that I really like. With BMI baby, sleazyjet and RyanAir, you feel somewhat behest to the company for getting such a cheap seat, you should be happy for what you get. With KLM you feel like a customer. A customer who is flying! I am lucky enough to remember when going on a plane was a big deal, and you were treated accordingly. Not shoved on 'cattle style', grumped at and charged for farting AND breathing the cabin air.
KLM! KLM! KLM! (Sorry having my own little protest here... (in support of KLM))

I feel that!

I flew with KLM for the first time in june ( They were cheaper than easyjet  ), and since I was so used to being treated like, well, shit. KLM made me feel, well, not so shit

Back to easyjet in October though, as always, price comes first on a 1 hour flight

yea always thought this was great. other airlines have been doing this for awhile. for instance united has economy plus that gives like 5 extra inches of legroom. its always nice to have the legroom esp on a long intercontinental flight. us west coasters are looking at a 10 hr flight to amsterdam/western europe. like 8 from say chicago.
educating myself and waiting for the next trip.

Always go KLM as they're the only airline that flies from Newcastle - mind you even if they weren't I probably still would. Had my sandwich on the plane this morning (the omlette ones are actually really nice) and a snifter on the way out on Friday.

Staff are nice and the pilots seem pretty good as well, have had hardly a bounce.

Have now got silver elite membership as I've done 15 flights this year so far, so I got to skip all the queues this morning as well :-)

Since I finish my work at 6 in the morning, a flight out 3 PM is bloody perfect. And there ain't nowt wrong with flying home at 5 PM, when ya gotta be at work for 10 PM.

Circumstances dictate when I book my flights Kingdoc, not departure times.

IMHO, I hate flying out early mornin, much prefer leaving mid-day. That way I arrive in Amsterdam, Fed, Sharp, ready for check in, and in an excellent mood.
Rather than, tired, hungry and lethargic, and having to wait hours before I can check in.

Different Strokes I guess......
