Has anybody every stayed at the Renaissance?
I have a lot of points on the Marriott program that I could use for a free stay in Amsterdam.
Any opinions pro or con for this Hotel? It looks like to location would be pretty good.

My wife and I stayed there before and after the remodeling most recently March-April. Nice hotel and great location short walk from Central. Rooms slightly larger than than average. I did not have any issues smoking the last time as we had a room with a window that opened over the straat below. The previous time I did not as our room window did not open as wide and it was looking out to other rooms in a courtyard which made me paranoid as I never smelled anyone else smoking on our floors or others.
As the norm with other hotels they charge quite a bit for any amenities such as internet access (20euro+ a day) and parking but those can be avoided. If I cannot find an apartment I like then this my first choice for a hotel.

Thanks for the info on the hotel.
Do they have designated smoking rooms (tabacco)? If so, I wouldn't think smoking a bit of herb would be much of a problem, especially if done next to an open window.

I don't recall them offering smoking rooms as I would have requested one. I believe all Renaissance hotels are non smoking despite location

Interesting. I have only stayed in their hotels in Asia and they always have smoking rooms. Perhaps this is a policy specific to Europe. It is a bit surprising as there are still a lot of smokers in Europe.

I stayed at the Renaussance in Cologne and was not offered a smoking room, but I stayed at the NH just south of Leidesplein and was

I have stayed there once on award points and once on a winning
Priceline bid ($100 US).
Can't comment on the smoking arrangements but the location
is superb. Siberie is just across the Singel and Amnesia is just a
bit further around the corner. And of course the Haarlemmerstraat
hot area begins across the street.
RLD is a short walk and there is plenty of late night food if you
want it.
And of course the rooms are large and clean.
I wish they would participate in Priceline again, I could not believe my good fortune.

All Marriotts have gone (includes all Marriott properties inc the Renn) smoke free world wide.
Is there an independently owned Marriott who has a different policy? I really doubt this to be the case.
