If you are from the USA you can get a passport card. It was recommended by someone here I believe and I got one for me and the wife. It was $20 i think and you had to mail away your passport with a few passport photos and the application. I got it back in a few weeks. It is good for land travel between the US and Canada and Mexico as well as cruising between US and Carribean or Bermuda. You still need your regular passport if you are flying anywhere but it is great to keep the card on you and leave your real passport in the hotel safe. The card is good for 10 years.

Someone should have explained this to you a long time ago: never travel in a foreign country without your passport on your person. Make photocopies, keep one at home and bring one with, so that in the event the original is lost or stolen, you will have proof of who you are, and it makes replacement easier. Drivers licenses doesn't mean shit to immigration authorities, they want to see the document you used to enter their country. Otherwise, you may end up in a holding cell and rightly so.
Photocopies can be photo-shopped, nice try. As soon as I read that you were bringing a minor with you, that spoke volumes as to the most likely reason for this thread, altering the age of the person. Fake identification can lead to arrest and deportation.
Leave underage at home, nothing but problems in your future if you insist on bringing minors on road trips. There are a few threads and posts on this website that provide many examples of why it's a bad idea, regardless if it's a mate or sibling.

Just because you don't see uniforms doesn't mean the police are not around. Ever heard the term plain clothes police? If you don't break the law, why worry about the authorities? Right. Thought so.

Fix the attitude about bringing underage or pay the consequences. If I were a betting man, I would wager that you will ignore my advice, and probably end up a statistic along with your underage mate.
And don't be surprised if you and your mate find your names on a banned list. Yes, they do exist.
Ignorance is no excuse.
