Rotterdammers waste millions on transport
23 October 2009
People using trams and buses in Rotterdam have 'given' the public transport company €40m by not checking out their smart cards when they get off, the Telegraaf reports on Friday.
On one in five journeys, passengers forget to swipe their card when leaving a bus or tram, meaning they pay an effective fine of between €2 and €2.50.
Although that money can be claimed back most people don't bother because it is too much bother or don't realise they can, the paper says.
