Time for some to go to school.
To state the obvious, a side effect of ingesting cannabis is an increase in appetite. No-duh statement: Medically, the increase in appetite is a good thing for patients who have lost their appetites due to chemotherapy.
Now on to a few words about the two primary strains: Indica and Sativa.
Indica is known for the stoned feeling. Couch lock is a term that first comes to mind, with munchies a close second. Indica is synonymous with both.
Sativa is known for its affect on the psyche, or head buzz, or high. In my experience when ingesting Sativa, if I become hungry it's because I haven't eaten in a while or it's meal time.
How to combat weight gain? The answer fits most regardless of whether they ingest cannabis or not. You control what you eat and how much, you control whether or not you exercise. With healthy eating, moderate exercise, and proper rest, you will control your weight (all things considered). Removing healthy eating habits and exercise and replace with the consumption of cannabis (Indica or Indica dominant) will most likely lead to weight gain.
Class dismissed.
Peace
