There are some very cheap deals at www.dfds.co.uk at the moment, just booked a 3 night break (2 on ferry, one one in a hotel on Darmstraat) for £85 p.p. You can do a day trip (inc. 2 nights on ferry) for £40, ferry crossing includes en suite bedrooms too.

I 1st used DFDS out of newcastle 10 years ago now,It was the "king of scandanavia" vessel if i recall.

King of Scandinavia still runs as well as the Princess of Norway.
I much prefer travelling by boat, it has the added bonus that you can smoke your way home
