Done the train to Germany and Belgium with small amounts and no problems. I have seen those German dogs with the big metal muzzles...scary.

i personally wouldn't risk it. i told my friend when we backpacked i wouldn't do it and if they did they did it at their own risk and id be pissed off if they got us in trouble/kicked off the train. wouldn't have bailed them out if they got arrested either. was short on cash for a 3 week trip that ended up lasting a month.

The French cops will bust you so hard you wish you never left home. I saw it happen once and have seen the police on French trains multiple times per week when I was traveling there on a weekly basis for work.

Many of the French train cops are plain clothed and you will not see it coming.

Smuggling drugs is silly, every country has drug dealers.

I've heard France is bad, but heard Italy is the worst. I took the train from Amsterdam to Paris last trip, but didn't bring anything as it was our honeymoon and I didn't wanna take any chances.

A few years ago I was searched by uniformed border agents crossing into Germany. Had nothing on me, so no problems. Had they checked my bag, they would not have noticed anything out of the ordinary. A dog would not have been a problem either because of the method(s) I use.
Easy steps to remember:
1. Airtight.
2. Handle the item with clean-hands. Residue may transfer onto the item and the dogs will alert, and someone with a good nose as well.
3. Don't attract any unnecessary attention. Be cool and enjoy the ride.
4. Air-out properly before getting on the train. If you reek, you will draw unwanted attention (see #3).
5. When trying something for the first time, perform these tests:
The airtight test: place the item under water and look for bubbles
The smell test: use camphor/menthol

Good luck.
Peace
