1-2 day trip to amsterdam qquestion. no dates yet. planning

Post by cantona7 »

well my mom talked to me today about how she wanted me and her to go back to england and visit the family at the end of this month/early December(this is fine as long as i don't miss muse when they are here). my dad just passed and i think she wants to see family. i do as well. anyway im plotting now. as yank a 1 or even 2 day trip to dam for me is usually unheard of...to far..to expensive..to little time for such a distance and a hassle. anyway i figure if im in the uk(northhamptonshire to be exact) maybe i could easyjet it to amsterdam for a day or two. how much does one need to save for these trips? id stay in very sparse accommodations or maybe nothing. are you allowed to crash in schipol? are there 24 (or nearly) hour places open where one can smoke/buy drinks all night? sorry for all the questions, iv never planned a trip this short before and have only flown easyjet once at the last min.

I allow E100 a day, first day i spend more and second day less so it balances out to around E100. You can pick up some cheap rooms for one or two nights.
I could maybe do it cheaper if I starved and stuck to the lower price bud.
Have a good one if you make it, love my one and two night trips and flying from the U.K is pretty quick.

short stays in amsterdam are great, problem is trying to pack a whole weeks smoke into 1 or 2 nights. hate hostels you never know what wierdos sharing your room. zeeburg cabins are cheap but its out of the way (18 euros taxi from dam square ish to zeeburg )

If you keep an eye out on the Easyjet.com website, they ofter have sales and you could probably pick up return flights for around £50 each, a nice little hotel will cost around £25 to £35 per night and you would need around £100 per day spending money.

Hope this helps once you've worked out the exchange rate :-)

i try to not pay to much attention to the exchange rate..its a bit depressing.

luton is another possibility as its on the train line i use to get to kettering. but i plan to be spending time in london. i mentioned gstwick because last time i flew to amsterdam out of england it was via gatwick.

Luton and possible Stansted... Gatwick is south of London and takes alot longer to get to :-)

What dates you thinking of going?

Cool Guide says Schipol has the comfiest lounge for spending the night. Not sure if you're familiar with the Sleeping in Airports website, but:

well was going to be late november but now my mom has company over then so now maybe early december. iv got $1000 or set aside that i was saving for my big 2010 10 day trip in feb. this has been put off till early april or 420 so may be able to dip into those funds now for a nicer trip. was thinking of going to a concert in france too. if it goes down may get to england the first 10 days of December.

yea gatwicks a pain. iv always taken a coach to get to and from there as iv used that ap alot as well as heathrow. stayed there the night before at a thistle when i flew to amsterdam.

you might like to consider the Stena Line ferry to holland from the uk

you travel when you would be sleeping, you arrive in amsterdam at 1030 in the morning so you have the morning and the afternoon for smoking and on the return you can hang around amsterdam until 7pm before hopping on the train back to the ferry port for the return to the uk again travelling whilst you are sleeping

it is a very relaxed way to go and frees up lots of good smoking time

Always worth a trip even for a night or 2 from the UK. So hope u get chance to go. I'm not so sure about sleeping at Schiphol, more for comfort reasons...i wouldn't fancy the floor or a hard bench. The best cheap option would be a hostel i would have thought.

Also, the thing I found for cheap companies such as EasyJet of ThomsonFly (even tho they dont fly to Amsterdam anymore i think) is that they earlier you book the tickets...the cheaper they are.

not to concerned about comfort..more privacy. had a shitty bed for 4 months when i was a teenager in boarding school. at one point a spring broke through the mattress and would poke me.
