been reading and loving the forum for months, finally plucked up the courage to join in and am having a great time sharing all the info and discussing this subject that is so clearly close to all of our hearts. I wish this forum had existed 25 yrs ago when I first staggered into Dam. In some ways it was more wild, and you just bounced around the red light distrct unless you knew someone who lived in one of the many squats there once was. We tried to get work on the docks when we ran out of money, we tried to get work in a blue movie (they dont make them in Dam, just sell them as we discovered!), you name it we did it. Now as a 44 year old father of two with a proper job etc I just want to find the best qulaity gear asap and sit somewhere nice and smoke and smoke and smoke. I get a few days every now and again to hit the place, and if anything I get more excited than ever...thanks to all of you regulars who have shared so much info and I hope in my own tiny way I can add something also to this wonderful site.

some reflections on times gone..
It was nuts, there was much more imported weed and much less skunk, loads of different thais and jamaicans weeds, legendary Colombian strains and Oxacan (top mexican), Apaculpo Gold, plus the nepalese blacks and red seals/Afgahn hash turned us into stone! It was very unregulated and the whole red light area was a bit seedier but more booths I think, never did any of that side of Dam but saw some mad old shit over the years going on in the early hours in those side streets. Back then if you knew how you could draw your dole money over there too! The squat scene was rife, whole streets were squats and many weird things went on, loads of raves etc. Paradiso/melkweg had some memorable raves, and there was a very underrated Dutch Dj in the early 90's called Dimtri (not the french poofy one) who played extraodinary stuff in a way now one esle did. One thing worth mentioning though is that Dam was always bloody expensive, always, until the euro gave us a short lived advantage of course. Its alot easier now though with this sort of forum to not waste any time, before it was almost a completely different and random experience each time. What a city! Love itPuffin13 wrote:First off, Welcome to the forum!Nice to have another old schooler here.

in august 1967 a friend and i flew on a university charter flight back to the usa from amsterdam in the days before the coffeeshopstempleball wrote:Is anyone else here old enough to remember Dam at this time?
we were not yet smokers so we spent the two days before we flew out in a bar drinking lovely dutch beer playing pool and listening to procol harum's whiter shade of pale
when we got back we found out that the smokers of our classmates had been enjoying proper moroccan kif whilst waiting for the flight
i remember one evening going back to our hotel passing by the dam monument in the dusky twilight and feeling quite menaced by all the junkies who hung out there all day and night ... quite spooky

yeah thats right, the junkies, the bloody junkies! Going back to the early 80's, I think its called Haarlemstraat that wraps around the edge of the red light area, and it was one long open-air smack supermarket and if you stumbled into or across the street at night swarms of junkies would surround you, used to scare the crap outame. Here, shall we start a new thread in another section, oldest and best/wildest memories of Dam?StonedSince'67 wrote:in august 1967 a friend and i flew on a university charter flight back to the usa from amsterdam in the days before the coffeeshopstempleball wrote:Is anyone else here old enough to remember Dam at this time?

That street is Warmoesstraat. Haarlemmerstraat, which becomes Haarlemstraat, is the one that runs along the north edge of the Jordaan. Two entirely different parts of the city.templeball wrote:I think its called Haarlemstraat that wraps around the edge of the red light area

Looking at the map id say it was Zeedijk that was junkies alley, sorry, dont know where haarlemstraat came from from... Did you ever have the pleasure of being mobbed by them when stumbling around worse for wear?FlyByNite wrote:That street is Warmoesstraat. I've been visiting since the late 80's. I dealt with the guilder long enough I got to liking it. Probably worse than the petty crime was the maxi dog shit. it was everywhere. I have seen a pretty little Dutch girl get a baggie out of her pocket and clean up after her dog. That never would have happened in the old days.
Enjoy
