Alkmaar could be a nice daytrip from Amsterdam , if thats what you're looking for . Did a weekend there in 08. Shops nicely spaced thru the Centrum. Leeuwarden has the best CS scene we've experienced out of Amsterdam , the centrum positively crawling with nice shops. Spent a weekend there this July , and have visited off and on since 01. Some pix in the SigLink ...

Havent been there but many people have told me it gets lively, is it a university town?

I've been to Eindhoven, and the weed was a little cheaper, but not the greatest
