I disagree respectfully on two points...
1 - I think places like Grasshopper and Bulldog are tourist traps... Barneys may target the tourist, but all the herb i've bought there has been high quality. The same can't be said for establishments like Grasshopper and Bulldog.
2 - "overpricing" by its' very definition would be the opposite of Barneys business plan. If they were overpriced, they'd be out of business. They charge what the market will pay... don't blame them for knowing how to market a brand and also deliver the goods.
As for service at Barneys... it's easy to say they are bad... but from experience all establishments are hit and miss since each employee has their own personality and opinions.

Barney's is an expensive place, it's prices are geared towards tourists spending just a couple of days in Amsterdam and spending up. Most of the CS's mentioned heavily here are like that, and I don't think there's anything wrong with it! Barney's does good quality weed, can't complain. It's different to places like Bulldog or Grasshopper, it's more 'up market'. Where as Bulldog and Grasshopper are more the Macdonalds of coffeeshops

I keep doing it as well, last trip I bought a gram of the Red Cherry Berry as it was dripping in crystals and smelt amazing, sadly it was weak and lacked any real flavour.
I do have real fond memories of the Sweet tooth when they first started selling that it was the best single example of weed i've ever smoked, I even travelled up to Amsterdam when we stopped in Delft once just to stock up on the Sweet Tooth.

I am no fan of Barneys (I actually dont even like them...), but I have read those kind of things about other shops and weeds I like as well, and my answer is:
its just not your type of weed. From your explanation I would say you are the type who needs that "headband" feeling and that is just not what those kind of strains give. they give you the high that "doesnt effect your head" (ofc every drug effects your head, but with those kind of strains you just dont feel your head is heavy or something)
there is a weed for every type

TBH I never really had any problems with stuff from barney's
when i first started going to A'dam like 8 years ago barney's was the best thing and i made a point of taking anybody I was with there because simply it was the best weed going (anyone remember willy nelson strain?)
I think there popularity has either over-stretched them a bit or boosted there ego's which is a shame. I think the bad service part is more to do with the pushiness (esp that long haired engligh/irish bloke) and there "hurry up" attitude
