On a recent trip to Amsterdam I decided that I wanted to try one of the expensive ones from Barneys. So I bought three grams of Dr Grinspoon in the hope it would be something special.

It was my first smoke in two months, so I was going in with a clean slate and an open mind.

Very disapointed with the effects.
OK .... its clean, with high notes and subtle effects, and it lasts a good while, but I find it lacking something. Laking enough that I soon want to smoke another spliff of something else, either that or stick some hash with it just to help it hit the spot.

This was my first ever purchase at Barneys, and it hasnt inspired me to spend my money there again.

Barneys prices are terrible! i am in there less & less in recent years,Ps there silver pearl wasnt knock you socks off stuff either,11 euros per gram as well.

No gear is worth 17 Euro per gram, no way. I nearly fell out when I saw how much they wanted for Quaze. I would rate the Dr. Grenspoon that the OP referred to as bud-lite, great taste with some effects. Not sure if the breeders intended for this strain to be light-weight gear, but it is. Nothing wrong with gear that isn't a heavy hitter as long as the consumer knows beforehand. As I stated above, not worth the price.

Comment on comments:
The OP was discussing the gear and not the shop.

Maybe a good thing I missed the Acapulco Gold. If this gear is anything remotely like the gear from Easy Going a few months ago, no thank you. That stuff was more like reconstituted bad Strawberry Cough, no where near the AG I grew up on in the 70s. Wonder how Barney's AG compares to the original?

Thanks for the pic, Pauli.
The description of the gear in the pic is nowhere near what I received, nothing sweet or hazy about it. Notice the price, 11 Euro compared to +15 two years later (although not from Dampkring).
Some other prices to note: Then/(Now)
Amnesia: 11/(12 Amnesia C/S 7-12-09)
SSH: 10.50/(10 Mellow Yellow C/S 7-12-09)
NYC Diesel: 8.50/(9 Dampkring C/S 7-12-09)

Some gear prices hold steady or rise at a reasonable pace, while others have become ridiculous (AccaGold for example). I think the future of Cannabis Tourism in the Netherlands will be shops that sell boutique gear at ridiculous prices. There are a few C/S's that exist now that somewhat fit the description, but I will refrain from naming them so as to not offend.

I was in Barney's Dec 16th 09 and too made the mistake buying the tempting 17e/ gram Dr.Grinspoon.

Well i asked to LOOK at the Grinspoon ( again i think i had the long haired arrogant english guy serving me ) and i was shown the Dr.Grinspoon tub which was just full of crappy weed - no buds at all. i then asked him if he had sold all the buds and he replied...this weed has no buds ?????? well i replied - are the buds just small and he said no - no buds at all just this grows on the plant branches?????....mmmmmm bullshit

Then he passed me my sealed bag (i never said yes to wanting it just wanted to see if it looked like it was worth 17euro) - i obliged and paid him - not to cause a seen & smoked a fatty elsewhere and it was a weak weed.... especially for 17euro.

P.S. the guy then had a laugh at my expense with the next customer(saying something like - some people are picky fuckers - no mate i just carn't be bullshitted about weed growing. !... mmm great customer service Barney's! If he had said sorry its all sodl out of buds - i still would have bought the seeds from him!!!

P.S. I always frequent the kinkerstraat area and this time had some stunning weed ( coke can size buds) of Amnesia Haze at La Massawwa - i really do give the bud the thumbs up and i smoked all over that holiday and it was the best !! Not a tourist cofffeeshop - very turkish - all men in the shop about 30 in total - quite dodgy too - (NOT a place for you and your girl to enjoy a hot chocolate !) so i left her in the apartment and went alone... ( still got weird looks tho as i'm a english guy) well worth it tho i must for a weed lover & after my 3rd trip the guy was cool enough. Great Coffee too - old style way of cooking up the coffee on a stove !

He's actually right in what he's saying, the quaze/grinspoon plant is a pure sativa that just grows calyxs and no real buds. I've heard ALOT of mixed reviews but when i smoked quazar haze as it was then called, from Barneys i thought it was amazing.

When i sampled it though, the tub was full and it stank lovely, was obviously very fresh. This is the problem with reviews of weed that are so stark in contrast, if you catch a fresh batch in a coffeeshop then you will usually always be delighted...but sampling it once they are nearing the end is obviously not a fair review.

@Spliffythebear - it sounds like you caught the end of the batch.

I don't understand how people can dislike this stuff, i know the price is the main issue but it's expensive for a reason it's not just hype, if you look around a few places surely you can find the freshest example? I loved it.

Thanks 2 Boner & True Playa - should of done homework before i had a go at it just though i was being b/s to...

Not enough yield for me as a plant i'd smoke it too quick -

@ True - It was a nice smoke i guess the 17 euro price tag u just expect something more...

Check out the Amnesia at massawwa - i'd love to hear what you lot think of it.

Any idea of the price of that Amnesia? Think I'll go and check it out...

I'm fond of the Amnesia x G13 (12e/g) from Borejongers - also in that part of town.
