South of the City

Post by curlingtong »

Hi Guys

Less than ten days now until our little trip to Amsterdam, and seeking some advice and reccommendations.

On all previous visits we have tended to stop in the more cCentral /Redlight district area ,Avenue hotel, Victoria , Greenhouse Effect area ,as have always previous gone with a few male friends.

However this time the future wife and i are going over to sample Amsterdams finest ,her first time

We are stopping south of the main area near the Dutch Bank and the Amstel river, so would love some advice on a few nice coffeeshops that end of town.

Already top of the list is Katsu, anyone have any other recommendations for some nice dubbies and anything else worth sampling in this area .

Many thanks

Find where you are staying on this map and zoom in for the nearest coffeeshops.

Katsu is a great shop, but The Albert Cuuypstraat area has alot more to offer,

Im sure Boner would reccomend Club Media :-)

Also Papillion, Yoyo and Carmona are favourites of mine from that Area

Mellow Yellow is South of centre and my personal favourite :-)

Have a good one

If you havent already seen this on the site, Lemming has kindly provided a mqp of that area too, althought if you come of the map al little either direction there are more great coffeeshops awaiting, aswell as the original Greenhouse shop ob Tolstraat :-)

Good quality goodies, organic and they're reasonable with the pricing as well.

Club Media- local vibe but friendly. quite a big place has a pool table. buy hindu kush if they've got it. If you want to get really waxed, try the ice hash. also they do small deals so you can try several items from the menu if u like/

welcome to the forum

How not to get hit by a bike

this document may be found in the excellent S G Collins website recommended by FlyByNite for first-time visitors to amsterdam

imho reading this document is the very most important preparation you can do to ensure your own safety in amsterdam traffic, because being hit by a bicycle could ruin your day ...

if you have already read the document, then thanks, but if not, then please please read before you arrive, and thanks

yo-yo is my favorite of the area, the place is spacious so easy on the non-smoker, the walls are covered in artworks, the weed is outdoor organic and the apple dessert is great, this shop is the quieter choice and has a very nice atmosphere

have a great trip ...

Hey curlingtong, I can't add much more to other people's replies about cs's in Oud-Zuid.

However, do not miss De Graal - my favourite shop - address is 25 Albert Cuypstraat (2 minutes walk from the market). Katsu for potent, although slightly pricier weed - Black Widow and (so I hear) SoGouda are worth a try, as is their Big Buddha Cheese. Club Media is highly recommended too as are Atlantis & Kabouter.

Have a great time!
