prices for flights to Vancouver? Any ideas? Interesting developments involing work mean i have to book a flight sometime next year after May. Seeing alot of 639 GBP, is this good or above odds?

I fly out to Canada to go to the Sunshine Coast twice a year and have always gone with Canadian Affair. If you book in advance the prices are great.

Sir Niall, I thought the UK had those superduper cheap airlines, so I am surprised to see the cheapest flight to YVR, at 689GBP. (I wonder if this is a spillover effect from the Olympics?)

What are the price differences if you were to fly out of Heathrow, Manchester, Glasgow, and so on?

Goosey Joe, if you are flying from the UK and stay on the sunshine coast, then my guess is that you fly into Vancouver as YVR seems like the closest international airport? (Abbottsford seems too far out and Victoria would mean 2 ferry rides and a few buses (or another plane ride) to get to the sunshine coast.)

Yup, indeed, it does rain here quite a bit. Autumn and winter are the worst two seasons for rain.

However, today it is a beautiful sunny day. The key in Southwest BC is to get out and enjoy the sun, on those few occaisions when the sun is shining!

The Sunshine Coast is close to Vancouver but, while it is on the mainland, it is only accessable by ferry. (Unless you want to risk driving down some unmarked unreliable scary old logging roads. Not advisable unless you have a death wish). Although Sunshine Coast is a bit of a misnomer it gets more sunshine than Vancouver.

I experienced an "Indian summer" in Vancouver during October. Absolutely beautiful. I rented a bike, picked up some smoke on the street and enjoyed pedaling around checking out the scene. Loved it.

Some years we do have great autumns. This year was not too bad re the rain, but those years are the exception rather than the rule. The year 2000 autumn was amazing. Pretty much no rain until November. (Even outdoor 16 week sativa growers were able to get a great harvest.)

September can often be really nice. If you are planning a summer trip, I have found that in the last week of July to the 3rd week of August typically have great weather. Only one or two years in the last 20 was that not rule of thumb not reliable.

BUT, typically, from Late October to about March-April it rains alot. Many folks prefer the rain to snow, but the rain can get old real fast.

Anyone coming to live here should see if they can hack the long grey rainy fall and winter. If so, then they might just stay.

BUT no rain today. Today the sun brilliantly lit up the snow covered local mountains, so I went for a very long walk.

last time i flew that route...(heathrow to portland Or. via vancouver) it was about 450gbp return with aircanada and jazz...but that was quite a while ago....nice flights apart from the food transatlantic.....jazz as a regional airline was superb as was the view from the flight from vancouver to PDX.....try the flight price searches...theres a lot o variation and try to be flexible with flight days as this helps too
