I've never seen anything like this. A rapper being sentenced because of threatening song lyrics? This guy, Wilders, very scary guy. Also kind of funny guy.

Rotterdam rapper Mosheb has been given 80 hours community service and a two month suspended jail term for threatening anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders in a rap.

The public prosecution department had called for 120 hours community service or 60 days in jail.

The text of the number, entitled Who's next, includes the rapper saying it will be 'bam bam' if he meets Wilders. The rapper also calls on Wilders to take back his words if he wants to stay alive and says 'this is no joke. Last night I dreamed I chopped your head off.'

The public prosecution department said the threat could reasonably lead to Wilders fearing for his life or that he would be subjected to violence.

According to news agency ANP, the court agreed with this conclusion and said the rap was threatening. 'A politician must be able to do his work,' the judges said.

Of the 424 incidents of threats against politicians made last year, 292 were directed at Wilders.

im a massive supporter of free speach (even when i absolutely disagree with it) but i have no sympathy for these 2 who were threatening witnesses to a murder, but i suppose im a hypocrite because i also hate rats

However im forced to ask, dosnt most rap threaten violence? IMO its only because this guy is Islamic that theres exception.

The only reason this musician guy is in trouble is because he's a muslim rapper. If a white dutch guy got up with his punk rock band and put out a song called "Fuck Wilder, hang him from the rafters" he'd never be brought in front of a judge. Wilders is afraid of this guy because he's Muslim, Wilders knows that there are lots of Muslim people who have a reason to actually kill him.

And he should be afraid. It didn't work out so good for Pim Fortuyn and I imagine something similar will probably happen to Wilders.

Actually, in many many countries, uttering a threat is a criminal offence no matter who utters the threat!

I think for charges to apply though, the credibility of the threat would need to be assessed. (Hence, given the violence already perpetrated against public officals or publicly outspoken people in the Netherlands, I think taking action was completely justified. Imagine the shit-storm that would arise if one the rapper's followers went out to commit such crime.)

NO doubt, it will also boost this guy's popularity and record sales.

I, too, am a big believer in free speech, but free speech has its limitations. For example, it is against the law to yell "FIRE" (when there is no fire in the building) in a packed theatre or other building, for obvious reasons.

Also, when directed at one particular person (or one specific group of persons) and if the speech is a call to incite violence against that person (or group) then that is NOT merely free speech.

Note: I dislike Wilder's views, but I would not want harm to befall the man. In my opinion, Wilders is an attention seeking buffoon. Without his outlandish views he would be virtually unknown outside of the Netherlands.

I couldn't see it getting to the top the hitlist the track sucks, unlike Wilders of course, I'm sure he's already been at lots of peoples No1 spot for awhile now anyway.

S'pose it depends on the full lyrics and their context, but it aint like they didn't know what they were potentially doin.

I guess I'm just so used to hearing Wilder's drum up ill will towards muslim immigrants. When Eminem threatened in graphic detail to murder his ex-wife, I don't believe he was sentenced for it.

I think when there's a (relatively) powerful Dutch guy backing an entire ethnic minority into a corner, for the courts to then punish a member of that ethnic minority for protesting is exploitative of the disadvantaged social group. i.e. the muslim people living in the netherlands.

In the end, it doesn't ACTUALLY matter what some little muslim people say about Wilders. When Wilders says stuff like "Muslims are not welcome in The Netherlands" he is actually doing a lot of damage. Just because the social avenues he has available to him for expressing these opinions are more accepted by society doesn't mean that the small Muslim musician is the one that should be silenced.
