Just flew in to mecca, and checked in at the hotel freeland, just near the leidseplein. The flight was smooth, I'm only here until Tuesday morning so there was no luggage to be checked in, just a small carry-on. Sailed straight through Schiphol and swiftly onto a waiting train to Centraal. The train journey seemed to fly by and I stepped off the train into a freezing cold Amsterdam at around 1830 local time.

Made a beeline to a Cash machine on the damrak and stacked my wallet, next thing was to buy a pipe, I got a cheap one from a nearby souvenir shop which should do the job for the next 4 days.

Then headed to Grey Area to pick up a first smoke of the trip, which came in the form of Silver Bubble for 13e/g. I took a seat because the place was suprisingly empty, just a couple of bar flies chatting to (who I believe to be) Adam behind the counter. The smell of the Silver B is overwhelmingly fruity and the buds are dense and crystally. Breaking it up was hard for my fingers to manage. The smoke was very smooth and the high was and continues to be a kick in the head.

I left the GA and jumped on a tram to the hotel, where I am now, just realising that I'm am unbelievably hungry so just about to head out again, to see whats about.

This is my 3rd trip this year and I have genuinely lost count of how many times I've been so really I'm not here to do or see anything in particular this time, just being in Amsterdam is quite enough.

I would have pics of a beautiful snowy Amsterdam btw, and beautiful crystally silver bub if it wasn't for the fact that I've left my cameras memory card at home, which will teach me not to get high before packing. I'll have to try and pick a cheap one up to see me over, along with a toothbrush and toothpaste.

Anyway I'm going to get going, but I should just say that the hotel freeland is a really nice place and probably should be more than 2*. I'm paying 130e for 4 nights, and the rooms are clean, colourful and flowery, and the staff seem to be quite amiable. I think I'd reccommend it to everyone.

Will report back as and when I can/feel like.

Just before heading out last night I discovered to my horror that I had not only come without my camera memory card and a toothbrush, but also without a plug adaptor to charge my laptop/phone/camera. Disaster.

Spent an hour and a bit wandering in an out of every souvenir shop and mini mart in central amsterdam without any luck. I convinced myself that nowhere would sell UK to Euro plug adaptors and that I'd be experiencing the next few days without electricity (maybe might not have actually been the worst thing) but FINALLY, I came across a little 'sells everything' shop near the rembrandtplein which had what I was looking for.

Problem solved and with that I needed to eat. Maoz falafel was just around the corner and it was just what I felt like. The falafel with hummus is god damn delicious. I'll prob be living on these for the next few days.

I took a stroll down to the nieuwmarkt and the green place, which was empty, save for a few people in the room at the back. Got a gram of the headband for 14e which is covered in crystals but doesn't smell of anything in particular. Smoked a few pipes worth and headed out, the music was annoying the living fuck out of me at this point. I don't mind some hip-hop usually but this was mindless and endlessly irritating so I headed out into the night. The headband was starting to take effect along with my long day catching up with me, (I'd been up and in work since 6am yesterday) The headband is a proper indica and it balanced out the lingering effects of the silver bubble.

It was about 10pm ish at this point and the snow was getting thicker, and the night was getting colder. I overheard someone say it was -7 degrees which wouldn't have suprised me if it were true. I'm only suprised the canals haven't frozen over yet.....So started the trek back to the hotel, I could have jumped on the tram but I wanted to pick up some munchies on the way back so I headed off on foot.

I've never been to Amsterdam at Christmas before and so I've never seen the amazing waffle/donut/pancake stands at the konigsplein and the leidseplein. I ordered 5 of the dutch raisin donuts, warmed and covered in icing sugar, they were the food of the gods.

Got back to the hotel and finished my donuts with a nice warm cup of coffee and put a few episodes of family guy on my laptop before nodding off.

----

Woke up this morning to clear blue skies and a thin sprinkling of snow. Looked at the clock and it was 10am! I slept in far longer than I'd hoped but I feel nice and refreshed.

Not much planned for today, will probably catch a tram down to get some breakfast on the harleemerstraat, dampkring 2 always has friendly service and decent smoke, and the toasties are second to none. Also need to find somewhere to watch the liverpool match at 13.45.

Will report back.

Awesome. Those donuts are deeeeeliscious. I usually go in January and apart from the cold (-5 is much better than the -20 we have now in montreal) the Coffeeshops are always nice and empty and so are the good breakfast spots.

Top report, sounds like a day most of us would enjoy! Too bad about the football, but from my experience (more than once) if there is one place to still be happy and watch your team do bad...it is Amsterdam.

Look forward to reading more.

Yeah, they only do those during the holidays.
Enjoy them.
Good report.
P.S. To be a three star hotel, I think you need an elevator there, plus some other things. It's standard for amenities, not necesssarily quality, so 2*'s can be better than 3*'s.
