this is a fairly long shot

was wondering if anyone on here has memories of the 'dam in 1996

my first trip was july 96, i had just finished my degree and 2 mates and i arrived on the 5th or 6th of july and stayed for 4 or 5 nights.

none of us seem to have any pictures or souveniers from the time but i've been trying to piece togther where we visited and most of that is lost in a haze. pretty sure we went to rookies; and the canals in the RLD then seemed to be lined with bars where you could get a beer and sit smoking outside late into the night (was hot that july!) .. considering my gf now makes a list of every place we visit i wish she'd been around then!

more importantly for me for some reason, i've been trying to remember where we stayed. now i know it was down weesperstraat as we stayed near the weesperplein metro.

on our last day we split up and i remember buying a bag of odds n sods (leftovers of grass & hash) with my last 8 guilders from Stix on Urechtstraat (that shop is identical to how i remember) on the way back to the hostel.

having done some walking on more recent trips (and using google maps), im sure i ended up smoking that in a basement level c/s near the hostel (which may be what is now listed as 'Trinity').

so i'm 99% sure we stayed on a hostel on sarphatistraat. it had a social area downstairs with a pool table and loads of board games, tea, coffee soft drinks and crap munchies (maybe sounds like a lot of hostels i suppose)

anyone stay here? remember it ? know about it ?

anyways, while i'm here

other random memories from said trip...
* seem to remember the roundabout at mr. visserplein being a total lottery as to whether you survived crossing it
* watching from dusk til dawn (wasted) at the cinema nr leidseplein desperately trying to focus on the english language and NOT the dutch subtitles
* 2 guys from stockport who shared our dorm
* going into the lift in madame tussauds (sorry) and wondering why it had all gotten so quiet and static, turning round to see everyone had exited the other side of the lift
* having no recollection of even going to perv at the RLD (i was 20 ffs.. why dont i remember that?)

so aside from the hostel enquiry, anyone else have any 'older' school stories to share ?
