Finding Coffee Shops
Hi guys,
I am a software developer from Ireland and I have created an iPhone/iPod Touch app for finding coffee shops while you are out and about.
The app contains data for about 2500 coffee shops, about 300 of which are in Amsterdam, you can add coffee shops, reviews etc. aswell so it works a lot like this site only mobile.
I cleared it with Lemming for me to post up a link to the App in iTunes, check it out if you are interested:http://itunes.com/app/whereiscoffee
I think it could be useful for any iPhone or iPod Touch owners who are travelling to Amsterdam, let me know what you guys think
Enjoy!

That's the app alright, our point of view is that a coffee shop by any other name is still a coffee shop.
You can find and add shops that sell coffee anywhere in the world with the app and you can find and add "coffeeshops" as well. There is already data for about 300 Amsterdam coffee shops in the database that are included in the app purchase.

Well I downloaded this app as I'm going to Amsterdam on Saturday and thought it would be really helpfull.
I have only used it at home so far but my initial thoughts are dont bother. There does not seem to be any search or look up functions. Its just google maps with coffee shop signs on it. You cant for instance decide ooh Im looking for a coffee shop on Waarmastraat (sorry if this is spelt wrong) show me my options.
Also the database seems really small. I checked the map for Manchester City Centre, which I know has more (ordinary) coffee shops than people, and according to this app, there are none.
I really hope I am being an app idiot and not using it right, as to me, this seems to be the biggest waste of 59p i've ever spent.
Sorry to dis your app, as it was a really good idea, but it needs a lot more work in my opinion.

I think people on here will find this one more useful.Citynumbers.com is now available in the iPhone App Store!
Coffeeshops, bars, clubs, restaurants, cinemas, casinos: they are all represented!
Just have a look on http://www.citynumbers.com and if you like it click the App button.
Enjoy Amsterdam!

Guys,
I'm sorry to hear that some of you are not finding our app is meeting your expectations. As Stuart has correctly pointed out, our app is intended as a community app and at present our community is small. As such, places such as Manchester will not have a huge representation of coffee shops.
On the other side of the coin, and this is why I posted here, there are 300 coffee shops in our database for the Amsterdam area. If anyone who has bought the app zooms out and navigates to Amsterdam, you will see that there is very good coverage here and the app could indeed be extremely useful for visitors to the city.
On the topic of a search, it was decided by our design team that the app would work best if it concentrated on your iPhone/iPod location at the time it is opened, as such we also decided that people probably wouldn't ever use it at home to search other cities (assuming they'd use the internet and sites such as this for that).
We are glad to have gotten your feedback and will be updating the app as an ongoing task so please do keep it coming.
I genuinely believe Where Is Coffee? would be a useful tool for anyone visiting Amsterdam.
Regards,
Keith

Did you get back from Amsterdam yet? Looking forward to hearing how your experience of our app was in Amsterdam itself.gnrchick8 wrote:Well I downloaded this app as I'm going to Amsterdam on Saturday and thought it would be really helpfull.

Qucik update for you guys that I hope might change your minds on our App, a new version has been released to the App Store and our database has been beefed up significantly.
Worldwide the application now contains 23,000 coffee shop locations for regular coffee, up from 2500. A big improvement, I am sure you will agree?
Of course, we still have a significant amount of data (350+ specialist coffee shops) in Amsterdam that I think is of serious interest to users here.
Thanks.
