Passenger tries to blow-up US airliner

An international airline passenger allegedly attempted to blow-up a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit by trying to set of an explosive device, US media reported Friday.
Earlier, an airline spokeswoman had said a passenger had been subdued after setting off a firecracker on the Northwest Airlines flight carrying 278 passengers.
An unnamed source told ABC News that investigators were interviewing a Nigerian man who claimed to have been directed by Al Qaeda to ignite an explosive on the flight.
However, the credibility of the man's statements were being questioned, the broadcaster said.
The man was on a government no-fly list, the source said.
US President Barack Obama had been informed of the incident during his Christmas vacation in Hawaii. The White House was investigating the incident as a potential attempted
terrorist attack, NBC News reported from Honolulu.
Spokesmen for the Department of Homeland Security and the White House could not immediately be reached for comment.
Two people were injured and one person was being treated in hospital. The passenger who set off the firecracker was subdued and the pilot was able to land safely.

You know what, im less and less surprised by these attempts at attacks. The question is often posed on what causes what, does the attacks come from american forgein policy, or the policy reflect attacks. IMO, the continued presence in Israel is a huge issue with this and vital to any type of reconciliation. My views on Israel i think should be left for another topic, but i feel the continued ignorance of attacks by Israel violating international law and amounting in many incedences to genocide need to be addressed, imo the reason they are not so is because powers in the West see it as a civilaised outpost in the middle east and therefore ready to ignore some of its crimes against those ' barbiac natives.'
Alot is made about Whabbaists in incidents like this as well, i would urge caution of that, Whabbaism is a fundamental branch of Islam, but not wholly responsible for any type of attack. This guy it seems dosnt fit the profile of what many people describe as a terrorist, he's nigiarian from a well off background and highly educated so why did he attack?
Because, imo, Britain and America have lost alot of the moral high ground because of torture allegations which have proven to be true amoung other things. This apparent brutal oppression by the Western powers has obviously motivated him to want to carry out such an attack, the actual violent outcome is probably the result of some type of brain washing. Its all too easy for us to wave this away as a headcase, however this is dangerous. By doing this we're simply ignoring the influence and view of our countries caused by our current actions. This is problematic, and while not every manaic's view on society is worth consideration, that does mean we should not self examine what we add to a situation to cause such needless and abhorrent violence.
I am not saying its all the Western powers fault, however to deney any responsibilty is completely and utterly idiotic, even if that responsibilty stems from events long before. This is not an Islam vs. the world situation i often feel it is cultural as well. Whatever it is it is complex and resolving it to me, wont happen in my lifetime.

Because, imo, Britain and America have lost alot of the moral high ground because of torture allegations which have proven to be true amoung other things,,,,,,,Yea they have niall! that was the bush family project anyways & we all know it,Really who the f**k voted for him?.

His rating has went from 70% 1 year ago to a mere 40% in a poll recently,Troop surges aside hes not really done much now has he?.
