Solo trip sounds like an experience.

It's actually funny because I've been planning on heading back for 4/20/10 and wanted to go solo, not expecting my boy who came last time to be interested this time around. Sure enough I get a text from him the other day asking if I booked my AMS trip yet and to let him know the info. Damn, lol.

It's cool to have familiar faces around but, as stated already, it can lead to headaches. Go solo or if you bring a friend, split up and do your own thing seperate for a few hours each day if you agree to disagree on what to do, CS's to hit, RLD girls to sample, etc.

I usually travel alone and love it because I meet so many interesting people and have so many incredible experiences. In Asia you will meet people all the time, because Asians are curious and will engage you. In Europe people are not as curious, but they are usually friendly.

Travelling alone is full of discoveries about where we are and about ourselves, and it is definitely a confidence booster.

There is something to be said about sharing the experience of being in a fantastic, romantic city like Amsterdam or Paris with one's special someone. Granted, compatibility is really important, but sharing such experiences will create more meaningful and memorable experiences.

had some solo visits, but imo it can be boring when alone, dont get me wrong, its the most beautiful place in the world and you will always find something to do... but im a not so chatty person, i normally dont get into conversations so much

another downside is, that i smoke far too much when im alone there, and nearly getting white outs when alone isnt funny at all

I think this is the same reason putting me off slightly. I am considering leaving my trip now until a mate is able to make it with me. I have some stuff here to keep me going 8)

agree totally you can get bored, and im first to admit when i smoke to much not really a talker (have a stoned twat look if i smoke to much) but its never stopped 18 - 25 year olds wanting to know what ive been smoking. i take a laptop for evenings and im good. most of all you need to feel comfortable on holiday, its worth going out maybe when other ACDer's are there, im back in march and would gladly show you around if you were in town then

First 2 trips to Amsterdam were with friends, and they were pretty much the worst trips I've had to Amsterdam, arguing over what we wnated to do, we had smokers and non-drinkers (me) we had smokers and drinkers, and we had drinkers and non-smokers.

The drinkers were the whiney gits who had to get their way all the time.

After I started coming to Amsterdam on my own, it was a whole different story. Never again having to sit in a bloody pub for 3 hours while the idiots get smashed out of their faces, and no more moaning they want to leave a coffeeshop 20 mins after we got there.

Seriously, I have had some better times with friends than those trips, but we always ended up doing my own thing for periods during the day, so there was never any hassle.

Going solo is the best thing ever, and it was through going solo so often that I met the people to help me move here too. that's an experience I wouldn't give up for the world :)

Hopefully catch up with some of you tonight, have a great new year wherever you are :)

Been twice - once with the mrs, once alone. You will have no worries at all on your own.

As others have said....how can (for most of us) the abundance and variety of top notch cannabis get boring, even if you're enjoying it alone. Unlike drinking alone (which I never do), cannabis is an introspective high which can be enjoyed equally well alone or socially.Meet & greets/toke & talks help, although not all will materialise, just make sure you book the right amount of time and hang out in all the right places to make sure you don't get bored. Coffeeshops are cool, it's perhaps those moments in the hotel that can be a bit lonely.

As others have said, it's true to say that people will chat to you in most A'dam cs's, although some places are more friendly than others. Don't worry about places that seem to be full of locals - they're usually the best and everyone speaks great English.

Have a great time.

I went solo last week. First time to Europe as well. What a great adventure. The people are super nice, just a great place. My time at the Dam was very limited so I cant wait to make a real trip next time and stay for a few days. I have to say that this forum and the people here are an invaluable resource. I would've been a bit lost without it.

I do have somewhat of a problem remembering the train ride back to the airport. Hmm. Maybe it was the jetlag. :)

Truth spoken.

I wasn't solo for my first trip but every local/foreigner (well, foreigner to me) I chatted with in the shops was cool as shit, it was my American bretheren that I really didn't vibe with.

Sadly, I came across 3 seemingly cool guys in Amnesia who ended up being from Boston, and if anyone here is a baseball fan, you'll know why me, a diehard Yankees fan from NY, was none too thrilled to run into Bostonians in, out of all places, Amsterdam.
